Consolidated "ORD Hotel" thread
Flying SAN-ORD-FRA on Saturday, 2/16, I hope, fingers crossed. We SAN folk just don't GET weather.
Backup plan is to reserve airport hotel for Sat night. Would prefer something with a shuttle, something around $100, something SPG, and most importantly, something with a flexible cancellation policy. Am seeing notes of must be over 21, ID required. Are these hotels as unpleasant as JFK airport hotels? I'm old enough to value comfort over cost - to a point. Or should I just Priceline it, hope I don't need it and consider it part of the cost of the trip? |

hmm, the Sheraton Gateway Suites is also $89 (prepaid Starpicks, $119 for cancelable BAR), plus 1000 bonus points with the "Work to Live" promo. It has a 24-hour shuttle and an indoor pool, and is just outside the airport grounds. It's my preferred SPG point run location.
Besides the Westin ORD, the other airport-area SPGs are a little more distant although I think they all provide shuttles. Those may have lower BAR rates, too. ORD is surrounded by many offices, unlike JFK, and the hotels reflect that; they're the very definition of boring and corporate. |
I'm guessing these near-$100/night prices are due to it being a Saturday; normally hotels around ORD seem to be $150+ during the week, and that's even for a Hampton Inn!

Best ord hotel
I know the hilton is on site, but what is the nicest hotel at (near) o'hare (I am willing to take a shuttle). Is it the hyhatt regency or the westin???
|
Based on what some of my collegues have said; The Inter Continental. The Renaissance, and aLoft are new properties and in good shape. The Westin is fine and Hyatt Regency is not my favorite.
|
The Westin and Hyatt are nice as is the Marriott. However, I am not sure that it is worth the shuttle ride in that the Airport Hilton is SO convienient and has a couple of nice restaurants. It I was to go off site, I would probably pick the Marriott because the food is good, service is solid and facility is well run. Westin and Hyatt are a bit large and convention focused for my tastes, but good as well.
|
When cost isn't an object, and there is an Intercontinental that would always be my choice.
|
I've stayed at the Ren a few times and I like it; LCD tv's, nice big rooms, etc..
|
I've enjoyed the Rosemont Hotel (formerly Sofitel) and would recommend it again in a heartbeat.
|
There are several Marriott/Renaissance properties in the area. The best is the Ren in Schaumberg, but it's a bit too far to have an airport shuttle. The other Ren is a Ren Suites, which provides extra space in a standard room.
|
Given the heavy traffic coming in and out of the airport I would not go any further than the Ohare Marriott.
|
I enjoyed the Westin when I was stuck there due to weather at ORD. Staff seemed to be very attentive and property was in decent shape.

I've stayed at the HI Express Rosemont a few times and never regretted it. There's a Greek restaurant right next door and Harry Caray's Steakhouse within walking distance.

I happen to be partial to the Intercontinental O'Hare (5300 N.River Road Rosemont,IL 847 544 5300). More upscale than most but rates are usually competitive given the state of the O'Hare hotel submarket. Food choices include Mccormick & Schmicks and Capitol Grille both adjacent to the rather chic gallery/lobby. The airport shuttle service runs 24/7.

I just researched this as we had a late arrival and early departure from ORD. These were the main options I settled on (i.e.: that you might want to check out) in the Hilton and IHG programs:
Holiday Inn O'Hare Rosemont (where we stayed ^; shuttle runs every half hour on the half hour, 8-min ride; restaurant in hotel as mentioned above) Intercontinental O'Hare (shuttle bus; reviews say this is a real treat and can be had for a good price; home to the Capitol Grille steakhouse) Hilton O'Hare (right in the airport itself; reviews say the property is nothing special, but can't be beat for convenience) Hilton Garden Inn O'Hare (shuttle bus; reviews are also very good) Hope this helps! |
Intercontinental O'Hare
Hyatt Rosemont Just depends on what your budget is! |

Now that I think of it, it may be the best of the bunch. There's a family restaurant/diner in the parking lot. The shuttle service can be a little slow, but by the same token they are also very accommodating, going so far as to run it like a taxi service in the general vicinity. It's also a rewards night value at 8000 points through mid-September. |
I had a voucher for a night at the Renaissance ORD earlier this year during the volcano fiasco. Nice hotel; but was only there for 6-7 hours. Restaurant and lounge were closed by the time returned from halfway to Europe, so I couldn't comment on the food. We just slept, showered, returned to ORD.
Free shuttle, but there's a footbridge over the Kennedy to the Blue line that can get you into the airport in a couple stops as well. |

Quoted the following rates 1 night near ORD:
Hilton ORD: $104 (AAA) Sheraton ORD: $109 Westin ORD: $110 Aloft ORD: $109 Hyatt O'Hare $129 CP: $95 IC: $119 Tentative plan is to go with Hilton as I would like to get as much sleep as possible prior to my 7am departure (and won't have time to enjoy breakfast). Also will be taking the L into the city for dinner (and back). But let me know if I am missing something elsewhere. May also check priceline though I generally don't go that route unless the savings is high. It isn't worth saving $20 for a crappy ROH room in a less convenient location. Addendum: For comparison, Hotwire is quoting 4* at $69-76 and BFT has the Hyatt ORD at $57-66 on priceline (Hilton has come up at $65). |

Hilton Rosemont is also a great hotel, they have a shuttle between the airport and hotel as well.
|
Sometimes you can get the Intercontinental on a 5000 Pointsbreak. That's about the best deal imaginable.

Residence Inn O'hare?
Anyone stayed at the Residence Inn O'hare, on Chestnut St, Rosemont?
TripAdvisor has some complaints about plane noise. Looks to be under the flight path. |
