Steaks in Chicago
For something off the beaten track - head north to Myron & Phils (Devon & Caldwell). This is real Chicago. Not a chain, just a Chicago institution for "North siders". It starts with a relish tray with roasted red peppers and chopped liver. The steaks are excellent cuts and reasonably priced: $$ Service is excellent, efficient and helpful. Look for the photos on the wall of many of their past guests... Bill Clinton, and many U.S. Senators and Hollywood celebs. P.S. I agree with RuthChris too - but be prepared for $$$$

I'm in Chicago next week and I'm curious - Where did you wind up? Any comments? |
Gene & Georgetti's
I'm going to G&G tomorrow night. My uncle raves about the place - and he's a vegetarian. :)
What should I get? Ordinarily I'd do a filet but my uncle tells me his dining companions always rave about the lamb chops. He tells me that he loves the white fish and the eggplant parmigiana. |
I would be interested in your opinion. They come up several times in this thread:

I went to Joe's earlier this week and it was excellent. I had the bone-in filet and it lived up to some of the best steaks I've had in NYC or Texas (my two hometowns)

If touristy minds being on the river with a great view of the city, so be it.
hence was the setting was night. The dry-aged porterhouse was juicy and oh so tender (BUT NOT MUSHY!). Great beef flavor shone though! All steaks at S&W are dry aged. The calamari appitizer left something to be desired, was not special. Others in our group LOVED the spilt pea soup. A big ^ to Smith and Wollensky's !!! |
didn't have a steak
Mrs Sweet Willie & I had some late night eats at Benny's Chop House - 444 N Wabash Ave www.bennyschophouse.com
shared two items: USDA Prime Steak Tartare - amazing, so full of flavor, stellar item Seafood Tower for Two - 1 Maine lobster (delicous), chinsy serving of Alaskan King Crab (but delicious again), 8 jumbo Gulf of Mex shrimp. pricey wine list but one can find some decent values. great service, expensive, but we knew that going in. |

How has nobody mentioned Rosebud Steakhouse?! Best steakhouse I've been to in Chicago. Make sure you go to Rosebud Steakhouse though, as there are many other restaurants under the Rosebud name, most of which are garbage. The steakhouse is at 192 e Walton.

I have eaten there several dozen times (enough times that they gave me a silver coin with this logo on it) and have only had to send back a steak twice. I find the steaks almost always perfect and the sides are pretty good too. The staff is great even though there are not many of the original girls left from when it first opened. They make a wonderful (even though not exactly to tradition) Sazerac. Pricey - but as you undoubtedly know, most of the good places in Chicago are. |
