Fascinating. But why is slightly more straight-laced Abu Dhabi cheaper than racy old Dubai?

We need to know these things.

My guess is that it is a simple matter of supply and demand, most likely that whilst there are plenty of ladies available in both cities, Dubai has more men demanding per lady supplying than Abu Dhabi.

This could be whilst both attract businessmen, Dubai markets itself as a holiday city and is more likely to attract tourists seeking ladies than Abu Dhabi.

hmmmmmm .. but with more-or-less contestable markets and a porous border you might expect supply to distribute itself in away that results in uniform pricing.

We need more data points :D

Don't know the price, but a friend took a girl home in Abu Dhabi. When he woke up in the morning he was alone in the bed. He wandered in to the kitchen and there she was, busy doing the ironing.

Not correct. Profits should be uniform, not pricing. Maybe Dubai is a more expensive place to operate.

So as long as the police aren't called in to resolve a disturbance involving a prostitute at a hotel, the police don't enforce the law because their bosses' bosses have social and business ties to maintain and sustain that also involve the same as other hotel owners.

Keep in mind that the UAE is a small country where it's citizens are a small minority of the population. This has come with relationships amongst the clans/tribes and even intra-family being so interwoven and yet sensitive that nationals have to walk on egg shells when dealing with other nationals because it's sort of hard to keep track of whose cousin just married the bosses' sister and who is the bosses' favorite spouse and kids at the moment. The consequence is that the lower level police aren't going to rock the boat and the upper level authorities want peace in the house and don't want to risk shattering the peace amongst the extended relatives by depriving a group of its national of money from investments unless they really feel they have to do something.

I'm curious about the more conservative emirates will you see ladies of the night there too?

Yes, I was careless in assuming uniform costs across UAE. Both emirates under consideration are more or less tied in expat cost indices, with some switching of position depending on level of accommodation - and location within each emirate.

I'm pretty sure prostitutes are not nationals , but they probably don't fit the the general expat profile ... and could face operating costs beyond the scope of general indices: what we need now is a specific sex-industry cost index.

I am positive they were prostitutes, so I ask, how is this possible considering how strict the UAE can be on unmarried tourists sharing hotel rooms??

What penalties do these women face- as the risk-reward doesn't seem worth it

Some of the hotels in Dubai allow guests and there are internet websites such as http://www.wikisexguide.com/wiki/Dubai#Sleeping where one can find the current hotels which allow this practise.

Penalties can be very hard, but not often used because this would kill the tourism.

You can see that sex tourism is very common in Dubai, because it was listed as the 4th best sex hot spot in the world on ranking http://www.wikisexguide.com/wiki/Top...s_in_The_World

However, be discreet on whatever you do in Dubai.

Dubai is a major den of international prostitution. Even more conservative Bahrain is a den of such -- to such extent that many of it's higher-end hotels are jokingly referred to as the br(h)othels.

Prostitution at hotels in the wealthier GCC states seems to be a market served exclusively by foreigners.

Pretty much everywhere in Dubai/AD/RAK/Fujairah/Ajman, but much more discreet in Sharjah. (They tend to actually crack down on stuff like unmarried cohabitation and illegal alcohol there - all alcohol is illegal alcohol in Sharjah). UAQ doesn't really have a tourism industry so who knows what happens there - but they have the cheapest booze so I doubt they care much.

There were a few "ladies" hanging out in front of the Conrad a couple weeks ago when I was there. I was surprised see these woman working tricks right in the open. The nightclubs in Dubai are notorious for working girls, most of them are from eastern Europe and you can usually spot them from a mile away.
