A long transit in TLV
I arrive (in November) at TLV at 7am and my departure is 7pm.
I have googled and looked for day rooms in the hotels but many of the threads are old. I will have access to a lounge (travelling in J on BA). The only day room i could find was at the Hilton ($300US) and the booking engines don't seem to cope very well with same day arrivals and departures. So basically i am looking for any suggestions. Somewhere to have a shower is good - does not have to be opulent. Any one have any experience with this? |
For how long are you looking? Are you just flying into Israel to start a RTW journey, meaning you actually have 12 hours to kill, or is it much less, as you have a business meeting?

One option, not the best, but still possible - act as a connecting passenger, and head right back into the terminal. The King David Lounge has decent showers, and cost $29 to enter.

if it was me Id head into TelAviv and grab a room for the 12 hrs OK probably closer to 9.
But TA isnt cheap when it comes to Hotels so Id burn some on my Hotel pts and contact the Hotel after making the res to see if they can allow a 9am checkin and late 4ish checkout Nothing at the airport Hotel wise, there are sereval along the beach and right across from it which is nice if you want to take a walk and relax. Or youd have to find a place to stash the carry-on and I would grab a shuttle to Jerusalem and walk around the Old City if weather permits.Ive done exactly this in a few European citys when I had a shorter layover then you did. It was nice walking around and checking the place out, then I fell asleep once we took off. And showered back at the airport before departing I dont care which airport it is (OK maybe LHR with VS) I dont relish a layover over 5 hrs and simply staying put in the Term |
If you've never been to Israel, then you really should take the opportunity to explore. I second craz's comment - take a trip to Jerusalem and check out the city. It's a unique place in the true sense of the word - there's nothing like it anywhere.
Or you could just pop into TA, find a reasonably cheap room, sleep for a while, and eat some delicious hummus. :D |

Many thanks to Josh and the others who made suggestions. |
having been to Israel before, a
Umm, if I had 12 hours transiting TLV (and I have been to Israel... many many times)... I would hop the train into the city, at that hour, grab a breakfast, lounge about and enjoy the city a bit... I don't really "get" the obsession around here with hanging out in these lounges, the Dan/KDL are fine for hanging out for an hour or two before the flight but the peeps who get to the airport 4 hours in advance to get "lounge time"... I don't get it. TLV is the best city in the world to hang out for a day; I guess if you're stopping over in Siberia you might not want to venture out, but in any great city, to stay in is a shame! |

The maximum time allowed in the Dan lounge is 2 hours I think.

There's a maximum time allowed?? I've never seen them enforce that. Besides, OP wouldn't be using Dan Lounge for longer, as either will be in Tel Aviv, or stay in terminal and buy day pass to KDL to use showers.

Will OP be able obtain a BP >4 hours before dept? In TLV, it might not be wise to use a refundable ticket to get thru the security. (BTW theres a new priority lane in TLV security, not sure where it's mentioned here).
