Sorry to post a similar thread but didnt want to Hijack the Golfteam's...

I'm looking for a nice hotel ($200-$300/nt) within in a long walk to the Convention Center where kids would be welcomed and we'd also find a decent hotel/lobby bar scene.

I dont know much about the JW Marriott or the Grand Hyatt but those are two I'm considering. I'll be in DC with a group from May 18-22.

Thanks!

The Renaissance is a very, very short walk to the Convention Center. It also has a very large lobby, an exercise room, a pool, etc. And some interesting kids activities within a short walk: Chinatown, MCI Center, the Spy Museum, etc.

The Hotel Monaco is very close to the convention center, and they have a thing where you can adopt a goldfish for the time of your stay- i bet the kids would enjoy that. (hotel staff takes care of it).

I've never been there- but friends who have, loved it.

Hotel Monaco does have a good reputation and its right in the middle of a great area, across the street from MCI Center and lots of restaurants, etc. Also very close to spy museum.

The Hyatt is nice. I've been there on separate occasions and have had rooms overlooking the street and overlooking the atrium. Definitely prefer the atrium view. The Hyatt's sports bar is less expensive than the Renaissance's sports bar (Presidents bar?). Edge to the Hyatt.

I think the Hyatt has a jazz bar right off the lobby. The Renaissance has a cool bar right in the lobby. Edge to the Ren.

Both are close to the attractions mentioned above (the Ren being closer to the convention center). Hyatt has a Metro stop "in" the building (a short, stay-inside walk to the building next door and then down the escalator). Edge to the Hyatt.

There is a health club next door to the Hyatt which charges an outrageous daily fee. Don't know about a pool. Edge to the Ren.

But the think I do like about the Hyatt is an inexpensive deli right off the lobby. Much cheaper than the hotel restaurant. Edge to the Hyatt.
