DC Snowstorm; When would you expect to re-open?

I understand a major snow event is expected in DC on Saturday. We MUST be in DC mid-day Sunday. Right now we have a Sunday morning flight.

How is DCA snow removal? Would you expect them to re-open by Sunday morning? The absolute worst case for us is to be on a Sunday morning flight that is cancelled.

If we needed to, we'd go up tonight to avoid that.

We're monitoring the weather, but are asking for input on how long you'd expect it to take DCA to re-open after the worst passes.

Thanks

It all depends on when the snow stops. If this is as critical as you say it is, go tonight.

I may be too late, but if it's still possible to reschedule for tonight, do it! Sunday afternoon/evening may start to see a return of arrivals to the WAS area.

Ugh. I'm sitting here thinking about what to do. I'm currently in LAS and my flight back to DCA arrives at 8:00pm. I'm hearing from people back home that, if the weather models hold up, the area is going to get pounded.

LAS of all places.... do I go home early or press my luck..ha.

I'm EXP on AA, so I would get accommodated probably, but I'd rather avoid the headaches.

We've got about 8 inches on the ground Saturday morning near Dulles. It is snowing heavily and the wind is blowing. There are Blizzard Warnings for DC and areas east of town. The worst of the snowfall is expected this afternoon - total of 16-24 inches. Some updates on airport conditions can be found at http://mwaa.com/snow

I live about 15 miles south of IAD and we have about 10 inches with howling winds. Forecasters say the brunt of the storm is just arriving now.

I would not anticipate IAD opening until Sunday late morning. That's just my guess.

MWAA is reporting on their website that both IAD and DCA are open with at least one runway cleared, but only a limited number of flights are landing and taking off.

I don't know who is maintaining their flight schedule... DL and UA have canceled just about all their flights.

Apparently, flight from South Africa landed earlier this morning at IAD. I've seen random USAirways planes being cleared and pushed back from the gate.

FAA is reporting that DCA is closed until at least 1:00PM.

Today is a very minimum travel day, tomorrow morning will likely be the same. Sunday evening things will begin to get back to normal (only begin) ... but with the holiday crush, there is going to be nothing normal about travel until after the holiday.

WMATA just announced that all MetroBus service will end at 1pm today. And all above-ground MetroRail service will also end at 1pm today (the underground parts of the rail service will continue to operate). Obviously this includes the DCA station.

They hope to resume regular Sunday schedules on Sunday morning. Time will tell.

I don't think IAD is officially closed but the last activity at the airport was around 11am, with the ET arrival from ADD. FedEx also got a plane in the air at that time.

Supposedly the OS flight from VIE should be arriving this hour and UA has flights from both LHR and FRA that will arrive after 6pm. But I don't know what you'd do when you land and all the roads have 15 inches of snow.

Just got an email saying DCA is closed (runways) until 6 am Sunday.

NH got their flight out 3 hours late and there have been a couple other arrivals (SK, QR, AV) but LH 418 diverted to CLT.

My parents are supposed to drive someone from Alexandria to IAD to make the VS flight to LHR which has been delayed to midnight.
