Kota Kinabalu Marriott Malaysia [Master Thread]

Opening March 2018. Cat 2. Exec lounge.

Hotel website:

https://www.marriott.co.uk/hotels/tr...arriott-hotel/

"For those seeking balance, the new Kota Kinabalu Marriott Hotel in Sabah offers an idyllic destination to explore the best of "the land below the wind". Set on the famed Waterfront - a popular center for dining and entertainment - and 15 minutes from Kota Kinabalu International Airport, this new hotel indulges guests in panoramic views of the South China Sea, authentic local culinary delights and thoughtful service. From the dramatic lobby to the sleek, modern rooms and suites, light wood tones and a calming palette glow under soft ambient lighting. For dining, six venues are set against a stunning backdrop of the Sapi and Gaya islands. Each offers a distinct experience, such as the interactive Japanese cuisine at Teppan Table and Big Fish, our take on surf-and-turf. Our specialty Sapi Island Martini awaits at Stylo, our rooftop bar overlooking the city. And the M Club executive lounge is among our business-focused features, complemented by naturally-lit event space featuring an 8,288-sq.ft. Grand Ballroom."

Does anyone know if this a new hotel or a re-flagged property?

Paid rates in August are over $200 per night, which is very, very expensive when compared to other Marriott properties in Malaysia.

Bookings accepted for September onwards. Just spoke to the front desk, they might open sooner, to be confirmed.

Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages is seemingly contradicted by complimentary cocktails.

Not really. Offering a free coke does not imply or preclude offering a free beer.

this is a new property.initially was supposed to be a JW Marriott but somehow it became Marriott

international hotel chain price are generally very high in Kota Kinabalu as there are not a lot of international chain hotels there/5 star hotels(Le Meridien,Hyatt Regency,Shangri-La Tanjung Aru,Hilton KK)

Is there anything to do around here as a tourist? Beaches? Colonial architecture? It's a category 2 award-redemption, which could make it an amazing value.

I found this on TripAdvisor, which is dated November 2018:

M Club on the 15th floor is open from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., daily with breakfast served from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m., "light snacks" from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., "family and kids" from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and "cocktails drinks," including alcohol, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. It seems as if children aren't allowed after 6:30 p.m. Apparently, "shorts, sandals, flip flops, slippers, baseball caps, gym-wear or bathrobes" are prohibited in the M Club.

Also, platinums and higher can have breakfast in the restaurant on the 8th floor between 6 and 10:30 a.m.

Is it the sort of place where you could spend 5 nights? It looks like March is the driest month. I imagine a platinum premier ambassador would be treated very well at this property since it's new and they can't get many ambassadors here.
