Well then I believe you will have about 10 Marriott properties to choose from as most are franchises. Socrates can probably give a more accurate number, but 10 is close if my memory serves me well.

your confusing owned with managed....MI manages quite a few hotels but owns very few

To clarify, I am talking about Private Franchises, these are different than most of the franchises. Private franchises are not managed by, or use anything provided by Marriott, but have their own rules and are not technically part of Marriott other than by name. Most of the hotels do not fall into this category.

???? I'm sorry but the info you received isnt correct

No, I am not confused. In this post I said nothing about management of the hotels, nor did emanon256's post to which I was responding. He and I were talking about franchises, which regardless of who manages the hotel, is an relationship between the Franchisee (owner other than Marriott) with the Franchisor (Marriott). In this post said nothing about management.

How emanon256 went on later to talk about management, and I also responded to that post where I did talk about management, which was a best guess on my part. I could well be mistaken there and would welcome your insight. Perhaps you accidentally responded to the wrong post. TIA for the additional info.

No, unfortunately late last year they left, just before we stayed in December (at least that is what I was told).

Wow, even the elephants had a problem with the hotel.

I was referring to your comment on most hotels being "franchised"...it really depends on the brand, in some brands most hotels are managed however in others all but 1 is franchised

From their most recent quarterly report:

"Our lodging business model involves managing and franchising hotels, rather than owning them. At June 19, 2009, 48 percent of the hotel rooms in our system were operated under management agreements, 50 percent were operated under franchise agreements, and 2 percent were owned or leased by us."

A quick google search will generally reveal the ownership and management of any hotel you are concerend about if it is a big deal to you. I personally have not seen a difference in service levels between Marriott managed and not-managed hotels when I've bothered to check who was involved.

Obviously this was an unhappy experience. However, by continuing to stress about it the OP is letting this one franchisee/operator rent way to much space in his head and is staying miserable for little reason.

I also would not inconvience myself to try and "get back" at Marriott. If business travel to NY is important and the Renaissance is great to you, why harm yourself as well as the Renaissance simply because some otherworld hotel GM is out chasing the local scenery rather than doing his job.

I expect the op will be a lot happier once he forgets the bad experience and gets 4 straight weeks of love and good experience from his Times Square Renaissance family.

PS: I recently stayed at the Sheraton NY at 53rd St and 7th and was pleasantly surprised by how well I was treated. And all this with only a gold from Sheraton and that was earned with 0 nite stays and only AMEX SPG points. I may stay with Starwood a bit more in the future.

No need for a private message and it is not a mystery. For example I am staying at the Curacao Marriott next week. I type "Curacao Marriott ownership" into google and find that it is owned by a subsidiary of Marriott International called Marriott Curacao N.V.

I am staying at the Portland Marriott City Center after that, I find thaat it was opened by a company called Lodgian which has apparently gone out of business and is now owned and operated by a comapny called Sunstone. I also in the same search see ownership info on the Courtyard City Center in Portland.
