Silver Elite members allowed access to lounge?

I am a Silver Elite member and am planning a stay at the Marriott Guarulhos (Sao Paulo) for June 26. Is there a general rule for lounge access? Is it only for Gold or Platinum members or does it vary by property/front desk staff/occupancy rate etc.

Lounge access at Marriott hotels is restricted to Gold/Plat.

You can always ask about getting a room upgrade to the CL or just getting CL access, but don' expect it as it is not a normal benefit.

Are you talking about "Marriott" branded hotels? I know for a fact that this is not true for some hotels under other Marriott brands. It is up to the hotel to determine who they will give access to.

This is the official policy for all Marriott brands. Yes, an individual hotel may make an exception on a case by case basis, but that is not a policy.

You aren't entitled to anything...it sucks to be Silver Elite

Just ask nicely,I'm silver and I've been given access 3/3 last stays, 1 of these on the Concierge floor. Other times have been told no rooms available on the floor but was given access to lounge

(Manhattan, Seattle and LA)

I know for a fact that there are Marriotts that grant lounge access to silvers by their own policy, not on an exception basis. Golds are just guaranteed to have access at all hotels.

That isn't surprising really, as all you have to do to get it is take out the Marriott credit card. ;)

Very true Nick...and I got rid of the card because the Canadian deal on the card is really underwhelming...no free stay to make the card worth the fee.

Some of the Golds and Plats here make me laugh, it is easy to feel self righteous about the extra amenities they are getting...when their employers are paying for the room (in most cases).

There are lots of little guys like me who travel about 4 times per year on their own dime...and who want to be brand faithful...but Marriott does not recognize this IMHO.

You are kidding right

you want someone (hotel in this instance) to cater to you for four stays a year? Unless you are booking the presidential suite for a week at a time four times a year.. you probably cost more than you are worth.. talk about making me laugh.. your comment had me roflmao

when employers are paying for the room its because the person is there to work, not go to the pool, not to sleep all day, not to pay the weekend discounted rate, not to schlep down the street to eat fast food..

the employee is away from their family.. the employee is generally not out having fun all day long.. there is a much higher price to be paid with 50-75 nights a year than some four time weekender who wants the same access that a 50+ night person gets

What he said!

After working a typical super sized day yesterday (8am-7pm) , I got to the lounge to find it had been completely cleaned out by the one-stay-a-year convention types. So I retired to my room, worked a few more hours and called room service for a substandard $36 hamburger and salad while not seeing my kids and not being able to watch my home town baseball team. Repeat next 4 days. Yes, it makes me feel so much better that my employer is paying for it...

Beermonger Jun 17, 2009 8:23 am

(1) Four stays does not necessarily equate into 4 nights.
(2) I am not asking for the same amenities afforded a gold or plat...just a little something.
(3) You chose your job...no, it is not fun being away from family...but essentially your employer is paying for your points...which means your vacations away also when you use said points...you are one of the self righteous ones I speak of...why not compensate your employer for the points you earned on their dime...wouldn't that be fair????????

Beermonger Jun 17, 2009 8:27 am

And further...exactly how many golds and Plats are out there that actually pay out of their own pocket??? Small percentage I am sure...

And as for complaining about lack of food in lounges, etc....make that complaint to Marriott...

Beermonger Jun 17, 2009 8:47 am

And Josh...complaining that the "one-stay-a-year" convention types ate all the food...are you suggesting that they stole the food? Or are you suggesting that they are not entitled to it? Are you suggesting that you are more entitled to it? Such a slur and slam to those convention types is laughable given that your employer essentially paid for your "perk" also...yet you and some others on these forums hold high and mighty attitudes for status and perks you never paid for...you treat the little guy paying out of his own pocket with such disdain that your own sense of entitlement is mind boggling...cant you see the forest for the trees? Now...if you are one of those Plats paying out of his own pocket...then I would take all my words back with a sincere apology. But that isn't the case, is it?
Again, your type sneers and looks upon the rest of us with derision...and you never even paid for your own status did you? Such a hypocrite.
