I Need to Know How to Pronounce "Marriott"

I've always thought Marriott is pronounced May ree ah t.

However, in the latest TV commercials, the announcer pronounced it as May ree eh t.

Which one is it?

Hi!

MARRY AH T like Marry Yacht, right? That's what I thought!!!!!!

The stupid TV commercial confused me!!!! And I asked my friend and he totally told me the wrong thing too!!!

Thanks!

It's funny everyone says it MERRY-yacht. You'll notice when you call that they say it MERRY-ut... I asked a friend of mine who's a Marriott, and he said one side of the family says MERRY-yacht, and they other side of the family says MERRY-ut..

So, both are correct. :)

Bill Marriott himself always pronounces it as Marry-utt, so that was always good enough for me.

He essentially "throws away" the last syllable.

This is also how it's pronounced in TV commercials.

Hey while you're here BlissWorld do ya think you can help getting Marriott to get rid of the cheap LATHER products? I know you have a proven track-record over on the Starwood forum :)

Didn't we already go through this on another thread, and find out that you're in the minority by not liking them?

Sheesh lighten-up  it was joke. You would have to visit the Starwood forum to understand. (It's a BlissWorld / SPG thang) ;)

And FYI, If I recall correctly, it was pretty much 50/50 I wouldn't call that the minority.

actually I'd say Bill pronounces it Mary-It

I always say Merry--ott, & so do most of the live employees the call centers, but the recorded female voice says Merry--utt to rhyme with 'idiot,' ;) which is spelled with only 1 T.

If they ever PO us with negative 'enhancements,' we can deride the program by calling it, "Idiot(t) Rewards" :D !

Yeah, kinda throwing the last syllable away.

In any case, I'd say the son of the founder of the company gets to decide how it's pronounced, and that ain't marry-ott. :D :D :D

annerj Jul 14, 2008 3:46 pm

Put me down for MARRY-OTT
