Splitting Rate-Sharing Stays and Points?

Can anyone help me. I often travel with friends who are also Marriott Rewards members. We split the billfor the room that we share and we both give our rewards numbers so that we can each receive a stay and each receive our points. Sometimes there are no problems BUT lately we have had problems of either neither of us get our credit or only one of us receives it. We both want to get our stays so that we reach the higher status level. Can anyone tell us how we are supposed to word this so it will happen. I emailed Marriott Rewards and they said that only one rewards member can receive credit for the points and the stay and I have read that only one member can receive points in the terms and conditions, but nothing is stated about the stays. Does anyone know a supervisor at MR and have a contact number so I can call as I would like to be credited with all my stays that they are not giving me. Thanks for your help. If a Marriott Rewards employee is reading this, please respond as I just don't understand why sometimes there is no hassle and other times we're told it can't be done! I don't get it as we are both staying and we both pay 1/2 the bill with our separate credit cards and our separate rewards numbers - HELP. Sorry I am so wordy, but I am frustrated with this and I really am trying to reach a higher level at Marriott, but it is hard when the rewards department won't credit me and they seem to make it difficult each time I call or email or send in a missing stay request form - they don't respond - instead they just ignore my requests and I receive no stays! Thank you.

I don't have any answers but just want to claify.

You are talking about 1 room, splitting the bill and wanting to get night credit for each of you?

If you stayed 2 nights in 1 room are you expecting 2 nights credit for each account?

Adding.....

Points? Are they splitting the points 50/50?

Honestly I've never heard of anything like this and can see plenty of reasons for them NOT to split things up or double give nights credits.

Yes - we share the room, split the cost and we both get 1/2 the points and we both get credited with a stay for each night. Marriott did this all last year, but this year it has been a hassle and it hardly ever happens.

Definately sounds like a hassle to me.

Book half of the stay under one MR number and the other half with the second.

I read your post as "book half the night...." and was wondering how you would do that? and then realized you said stay.

The caffeine has not kicked in yet.

OP,
It could be the hotels and MR overlooked and finally caught up with the stay credits posted. It might be wise not to bring too much attention to the stay credits that were already posted, ask for the missing stay credits stay by stay between your 2 accounts and change your booking strategy as slowly mentioned.

I think you got lucky.

If this were SOP then I could team up with someone and only have to stay 30 nights for plat (after my 15 from the credit card).

Hi jmsoros,

While you may have gotten credit in the past, only one Marriott Rewards member may receive credit - points and nights - for a room. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Best regards,

Drew

Just one data point, but I thought I'd share. I'm staying 3 nights with a friend on his corp. rate (he's plat, I'm gold) at the New Orleans Renaissance. I called the front desk, explained the situation & they said it'd be no problem to credit both accounts for elite nights.

I don't care so much about the points earned, but it'd be nice to get the night credit, which shouldn't be an issue. All I have to do is give them my MR # when we check in.

I'll post an update next week after the trip!

As promised the FD split our room bill at check-in. My half of the points & 3 night credits posted to my account.
