How often do you encounter missing stays on your MR account?

Just noticed that a one night stay last month at a regular Marriott was not credited on my account. What a hassle - I have to get a copy of the hotel bill from the hotel and fax it along with the missing stay request form. Then who knows how long it will take to get it credited. It's only one night so it is almost not worth it but I earned those points, darn it!

How often does this happen to you elites out there?

No too often. Never had problem with stays in properties in the US and Canada. My missing stay credits were usually occurred with European stays.
I agree its a hassle to have to call and fax receipt to them and then wait for weeks.

I'm got something similar at Courtyard Munich - booked a 13 night stay and left after the 7th night but my colleagues stayed in the room. They forced the remaining colleagues to switch the reservation to his name and thus the points. So, I'm trying to battle with them now about it.

Almost never in US / about 50-60% in Intl. Properties

I stay most of the time in Europe and Asia and just a fraction of the stays post correctly. There is a number of Hotels where I stayed many times who did not yet manage a single time to get points posted correctly.

It has rarely happened to me. But for the times that the points for a stay didn't post, I would fax a letter to the hotel requesting the folio for the period of the stay. Each time that I have faxed the letter, they would always fax the folio to me. Usually, I would then fax the folio and a copy of the reservation confirmation sheet to Marriott Rewards along with a letter explaining that the points for a particular stay did not post. With in 2-3 days, the points would post.

Try this if you haven't already.

I just had a new one happen to me. I stayed two nights at a CY last week. The stay posted the other day, but only one night and one night's worth of points were credited. I called to get them to add the extra night and the extra points. They said they couldn't as I only stayed one night, not two.

After calling the hotel, it seems that since I left before 4:00am, they didn't charge me for that night. But what was weird was that the receipt I had showed me being charged for both nights, not just one of them.

It definitely isn't worth arguing over. One night credit plus about 1500 points or saving $120 plus? I figure I'll for go the money this time.

But overall, I have had pretty good luck with my points and nights all posting correctly (at hotels in the US and elsewhere.)

So rare I cannot even remember it happening.

It happens too often. Especially in the UK. Very annoying.

Within the US/Canada never had a problem, the only issue occasionally been the failure to post the 500 Platinum Amenity points, but the actual hotel stays/points no issue. Outside of the US/Canada though, almost the reverse! I would say that half the time they don't post and half of those that do, do so incorrectly. One thing that has happened a couple of times is that the currency conversion used to work out the points has been ridiculously low, to Marriott's credit, everything has always been resolved. But its a major flaw in their program and a major hassle.

I personally think that if you have made a reservation through Marriott.com, your SIL/GLD/PLT number is on that reservation then there should be some kind of guarantee that the points will post... if not, a 1000 point bonus or something. Starwood on the other hand never had points fail to post, anywhere in the world, longer than 48 hours after checking out... so is possible!

I had a similar experience happen to me. I was stranded at the airport upon arrival, since Hertz was closed. I had a guaranteed late arrival at the hotel 40 miles away, but didn't make it there until 6AM. Although the receipt showed 2 nights stay, I ended up only getting credit for 1 night. (I was charged for both nights, though.) The check-in after midnight may have played havok with the number of nights posted, although this hasn't been the case in other situations where I arrive after midnight. A quick fax of my receipt to MR straightened it out, and the extra night's stay posted a few days later.

Unfortunately, it happens too often. In my case. it happens about 3-4 times per year.

Some hotels are just worse than others.

In my case, I have an issue right now that I will have to fax over on Monday. I stayed for three nights and they credited me for two. They got the points right, but not the stays.

Generally, a fax takes care of the problem, but there have been times when I have had to send a second fax over to Marriott. I now write on the second fax in big letters...."SECOND REQUEST" and this takes care of the problem rather quickly.

same here

I agree with the above and have similar experiences.

In the US, I can't remember a problem. In Australia the Melbourne Marriott NEVER gets my posting right. I have stayed there 10 times. My take is that their computer system is at fault. I just keep my folio handy and send it in after the 10-day waiting period.

Other things go wrong, too, like the rate charged! I have also been able to claim the Platinum Guarantee twice when they messed that up.

On the other hand, once I fax my folio into the Salt Lake Center, my nights and points are posted within a few days. Only once did I have to do a second request, which was posted within 24 hours.

What is there to battle? They're doing the right thing - according to MR terms and conditions.

Not too often for me, either, but I can remember one property where I always have an issue with points - The Renaissance Scottsdale Resort. It's an older property, but I like it and it's never packed. But points either take forever to post (and they're wrong) or they don't post at all. A call to MR resolves it, but makes one wonder if there something intentional going on when it's always that property.

imverge Jul 28, 2007 9:03 am

I would have to say 90% of my stays always post automatic to my account. Although when they don't a quick call to customer service and they get posted immediately upon verification with the hotel.
