How to use spouse's 34A E-cert?

Does anyone know if I can use my husband's visa free night cert towards a reward stay made under my name? He will be staying with me the entire stay.

I know in the past with a paper cert, I can do so. But now it is a E cert with no paper to turn in, so not sure how to do it. I was told by the help desk it is not transferable, but maybe someone has other experience.

I cannot re-do the reservation to his name for just 1 night to use the cert because the hotel has changed from cat 4 to 5. I have confirmed that they will honor it as cat 4 since reservation was made prior to change. But once I made changes to it, it will be re-booked as a cat 5.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Can you call the hotel and have his name added to the existing reservation so both of your names are on it? I don't think that would trigger a change to the award category, but not certain.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I called but was told that because this is a reward stay, I cannot add my husband's name to the reservation. I even told the rep we are arriving at different times and ask if he could check in first, but again she said no for the same reason. He will have to wait for me to check in.

BTW - this is Renaissance Harbour View Hong Kong and indeed we are flying in at different times from separate cities. But the CSR wouldn't bend.

Why not try an email or fax to the property? The response you got seems nonsensical to me.

Same problem here; I wanted my wife to use the certificate. When I went to make the reservation, they said I had to be the one to check in. Any way around this?

Thanks!
