Status change - how fast is it recognized?

I'm in the process of switching from Starwood (where I'm a plat) to MR; I have just logged my 9th night in 2006 and have a 10th night stay in 2005. What is the fastest way to get them to recognize my status change?
I will be spending the next 19 days at Marriotts and would like to get it recognized as soon as possible.
I didn't bother trying to get comped status and will be getting the MR Visa sometime this year (I know it's instant silver); I still have and am using the Starwood AmEx. I want to wait a little bit since the free night is only good for 6 mos- I don't have vacation plans for quite a while.

I just converted over to Hertz from Avis, so it's a slow process to get everthing converted over to earning MR points. I do like that Hertz gives 500 MR pts vs 50 Starwood pts at Avis.

Any advice on who/where to call to get recognized Silver ASAP?

When I hit my 10th night last year, it was a Thursday night/Friday morning, and it was recognized in time for my stay the next Wedneday (6 days later). It's quick. But to tell you the truth, the ONLY real advantage of Silver elite vs. non-elite that I've found is the 20% bonus points.

From reading the T&C, that's the impression that I got. Oh well, I'll get the MR Premier Visa within the next month so that I can hit gold a few days quicker.
Thanks for the response.

well, considering that I only hit my 45th night this year and they just upgraded me to platinum, i'd say that status is recognized a lot faster than I ever expected!
