why do some hotels ignore emails?

I have now emailed the Renaissance Riverside in Saigon three times in total asking for a late departure room( and how much it would cost). I can not do this through the Marriott website, although they took my booking, as they said I had to contact the hotel directly. As I only have 4 days in Saigon and have an 8pm flight out I don't want to have to check out of the hotel midday. Is this an indication of the service I am likely to get when I am there?

Sounds like they're collecting the e-mail and faxing it to the hotel while replying as vaguely as possible. In any case, calling the hotel to confirm things would be a good thing.

They ALL ignore emails

I've given up on trying to communicate with specific Marriotts via email. Even when they leave a business card with my platinum gift showing the person's email address, they never respond. :(

The Grand Flora ignores them. Rome Westin, Rome St. Regis, Florence Westin and the Venice Starwood properties all respond very timely. Rome Marriott just blows it off.

I don't think it's just Marriott properties either. Other chains are similarly email-challenged, it seems to me  One does wonder why they provide an email address (at least for those that do) if they don't actually use them for communications. Oh well.

I would call them directly. However, you may be able to arrange for a free late checkout if you are gold or plat. I actually email a lot of hotel management and almost always get a response, but keep in mind that it is usually a "nice to have met you" email and no work or questions involved.

interesting to see it is just not me! Ihave eventually got a reply from the hotel and do have my late check out. I just think it leaves such a bad impression though.
