Rennaissance Quality

I just recently got a job that requires 100% travel. I recently stayed at the Rennaissance Denver and left after one night to stay at a Springfield Suites instead because the Rennaissance was so shabby and the service was so poor.

Is Rennaissance typically sub-par or is the Denver hotel an exception?

That would definitely not be typical of my experiences with different Renaissance hotels. Of all of them, the Renaissance Chicago has to be by far the best that I've stayed at and is a fantastic hotel. I recommend staying there if you get the chance.

I have stayed at that hotel and it is definately the exception. Most are very nice.

In general, I prefer Rens to Marriotts. Marriotts tend to be more cookie cutter. Rens tend to have more personality. There are, of course, exceptions. As mentioned, the Ren Chicago is great property (formerly a Stouffers, before Ren bought Stouffers, before Marriott bought Ren). So is the Ren Vinoy.

i like the Renassance s when they were Stouffers and giving away those $50 savings bonds with stays - 20 years ago.

The Renaissance Santo Domingo is the worst run and worst physical property of any major hotel chain, that i have been in.

I have never been in the Renaissance Denver, but was in the Renaissance Flat Iron, near Boulder. THAT WAS FANTASTIC, i checked in and didnt leave the hotel till 5 days later at checkout.

I thought the Renaissance St. Petersburg was OK, but many of the newer facilities are hampered by having to be construction in limited space

will make my first visit to the Philadelpphia Airport Renaissance at the end of april.

The PHL Airport Renaissance is really nothing special. It's on the edge of a swamp, a mile or two south of the airport. No real complaints, but not the sort of place anybody would want to stay more than the bare minimum necessary.

The Rennaissance Denver is an exception, IMO.

My fav Ren are STL Rennaissce Suite downtown; the Mayflower DC and the new LAS Ren.

I have found Rennaissance properties are similar to Marriott branded ones - there are new ones which are generally top notch, and older properties which could really use some upgrades. I have never had one so bad I wanted to check out.

One of my all time favorite stays was at the Renaissance Tokyo Ginza. My room had speakers in the ceiling and a bedside control unit that let you listen to radio stations from all over the world. I realize you can do easily today with Internet or sat radio - but seven years ago I thought it was really cool.

I find Ren.'s are generally more interesting properties than FS Marriotts. So far have tried four of them: Pittsburgh, Downtown Chicago, Times Square NY, and La Defense France. All of them were very nice and no two were alike. The variety is nice. If I have a choice between a FS Marriott or a Ren. at a simliar price, I'll choose the Ren. every time.

That's the one that used to be the airport hotel, right? I stayed there for a night 2 xmas' ago (got in the night before the rest of the family). I think there were maybe 5 rooms in use. The service wasn't great (definitely not of the "you're the only one here, so we'll pamper you" level), but wasn't bad either.
