Policy re points for incidentials

I'm usually a Hilton guy, but I stayed at a Marriot property for a long stay where the company paid for the room directly. They took my credit card for additional charges, which they dutifuly charged my AMEX for. Should I get points for these charges, as they have not posted on marriot rewards?

I am pretty sure that the answer is yes, you should get points for incidentals that you paid for yourself. But Marriott's system codes third-party-paid stays as non-points-earning, so that's your problem. I would suggest calling Marriott Rewards and explaining the whole situation to them. They should be able to give you points for the incidentals, but you will not get credit for the stay itself or for the charges paid by others. Of course, unless you paid for a lot of incidentals, it may not be worth the time and effort to straighten this out.

See The Marriott Website

There is a cover sheet you print out to claim missing points and fax to Salt Lake City with a copy of the folio. Salt Lake is good to post missing points within about two weeks, but never gives stay credit for a third-party channel. (Sometimes the hotel will, although nowhere near always or every hotel). At Marriott its more important than some other chains to triple-check you card number is properly tied, and have enough incidentals they won't just comp them out.

Did you stayed at a full service Marriotts or Renaissance. They don't give points for incidentals at the second tier hotels.

Very good point. Properties such as Courtyard, Residence Inn, Fairfield, etc., do not give points for incidentals.

Not to overload you with information, and if so I do apologize, but you can see some of the points-earning breakdown (if I did this correctly) at:

This link might be helpful in determining the points-earning capability at the different Marriott properties.

If the OP's stay was at a select service property, AFAIK there are no points for incidentals, other than the 3 pts/$ for using the MR VISA to pay for them. Perhaps he has a better deal with AMEX on such charges.

I have gotten points for incidental on a rewards stay, even at a Courtyard. I'm not sure if that was at the hotel's discretion though.
