I received this back:
Dear Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxxx: The "Silver Elite Double Points" promotion is a promotion sent out by our Corporate offices. I apologize that our office has been advised that no Platinum or Gold members are eligible for this promotion. Corporate is trying to get our least frequent stayers to make more stays with this promotion. We will have future promotions that benefit you, our most loyal members, for example: The "MegaBonus" promotion, where you earned 20,000 points after qualifying, when most Silver members only earned 10,000 points. We appreciate your continued loyalty to Marriott and look forward to serving you again soon. Sincerely, Xxxxx Xxxx Marriott Rewards |
Just a thought. How many silvers (10's of thousands?) as opposed to Gold or Platinum(thousands)?I am sure Marriott did the math and have a reason for potential numbers of nights.
A game of numbers.Am not upset at a business looking to grow their business. I am treated well by Marriott.Am more disappointed that revenue does not play more into the math than nights at all Marriott brand hotels. |
Clarifying a couple parts of the Promtion
Two e-mail responses I recieved from Elite Services that clarify the rules of this promotion.
Dear HepperSchepp, Any stays that post to your account during the promotion dates should count toward the promotion. Unlike past promotions in which it had be a paid stay, if your first stay is a redemption stay it should count as your first stay and any additional stays will earn double points. AND Dear HepperSchepp, As long as you check in to your stay before September 15, and have a previous stay, you should earn double points for your stay. Be sure to check on your account after your stay, if you do not see the double points, please contact us. |
As a silver I recieved mine in the mail today. It says that I do not have to register and that I will get double points 4 to 6 weeks after 9/15. I have recently changed about 10 nights over to Marriott for the Bonus Buck promo and recieved a Summer Double bonus on the Marriott stay that has posted so far. Just checked out of the second one today so I will wait and see if that posts also. I think they are two different promos, since my CY stay did not post a double Summer promo and Marriott did. This new Siler promo includes all chains.
I will say that the promos are the ONLY thing that got me to book marriott. $100 off every two night weekend stay (5 in the period) and double points and maybe even double more the second time. Yes, it got this lowly silver to requalify silver, but not anywhere near enough to move up to Gold. I think Marriott is being very wise here. They are giving points to those of us that don't generally use Marriott. 10 nights a year! Come on, that is not loyalty! I have probably spent 60 nights in hotels and 5 had been at marriotts. They will profit from the promotion from this silver. Most Golds and Plats they would just be giving you more points on stays they would already get the money from. Or they would take a loss. I think hotel chains know that very few people only stay with one chain, so they are after the incrimental revenue they can grab from other chains for those of us un-loyal, loyalists. |
OK, obviously it is only a Silver elite promo. so for once being not so elite paid off. I asked Marriott via email to enroll me. Got an interesting response. They can't enroll me anymore, however, their supervisor will manually look at my account around Sept 15 and give me the double points I would be due if I actually had enrolled.
I do appreciate the gesture, and converted a future stay from Hilton to Marriott because of it, so at least in my case it won them some business. |
What are the chances.....
.....that we might see something like last year's non-targetted double points promotion for the fall? IIRC, that was simply double points if you pay with VISA, correct? No double nights on top of the double points? I am trying to finalize my fall travel schedule now, and would like to book some Marriotts in there, but I am getting free weekend nights with SPG and bonus points on some Crowne Plaza stays with ICHG -- but, nothing from Marriott. At this point, it would likely take some sort of double-double promo to get me to move some nights to Marriott, as it is tough to compete with stay 5 nights, get one free weekend night (though I wish I had either the 3-stay or the 10-4 with better cat choice offers)....but, it is really hard to compete with NO promo at all.

Depends on how hard-up Marriott is for revenue and room nights.
My 39,000 points just posted from my San Diego stay (16,000 base, 16,000 double bonus, and 3000 Silver elite bonus) and I also gave them seven nights for 10,000 points earlier this year. So Marriott has gotten an additional fifteen nights out of me they normally wouldn't with these two specials. |
