Mega Bonus Promo Important Update!!

Yes, I know there is a pre-existing thread on the Mega Bonus promo but the information that I am going to convey below, may not be read by all since they may already have attained their promotion goals.

I was given a 10 Day/20,000 points promo and I just reached same. In contacting MR Guest Relations, I aksed if there was any way I might qualify for the additional points i.e. 5 additional days to net another 15,000 points.

The guest relations advisor said that my challenge was based upon my past stay patterns, but that she would be happy to annotate my account to indicate that if I were to fulfill the adidtional days, I would get the additional points.

Moreover, in response to my inquiry whether I would lose the 20,000 bonus points already earned by re-writing my promotion, she indicated that will not happen, and that this will be essentially a "no-penalty" additional goal that I could meet, but that I would not be penalized for faililng to do so.

Therefore, if there are others who believe that they also may surpass their original challenge and might be able to make the next rung on the ladder, by all means contact MR and ask them if they will treat you in the same manner as I was treated.

YMMV, as I dealt with a rep from the Marriott Plat Elite line and I have no idea how others will be treated.

Good Luck!

tpasol Apr 28, 2004 1:45 pm

Did the CSR state that you WILL get the points or that you should get the points? In other words, is someone down the line going to make a further determination that should be given the additional points.

I got a 15 day / 25K challenge and would love another 10K.

NJUPINTHEAIR Apr 28, 2004 1:49 pm

I will get the points. Sorry for any confusion, and I hope they do likewise for others similarly situated.

They are going to absolutely love you in SLC! :D They can expect my phone call tomorrow since I'm already over by about ten nights!

ANNERJ --

I did not know that they had a 25K level, how many nights did you have to do?

In any event, I thought that the most one could earn is 35K, am I wrong?

In any event, good luck to all!

MCOisHOME2ME Apr 28, 2004 3:41 pm

Can someone remind me of what the original different levels were (yes, I could search but that wouldn't increase my post count ;) )? I got the measley 7 days (I think) / 10,000 points that I probably hit within the first 7 days of the promotion. I'm well into the 50-60 night range since the promo began now.

Plus, anyone know what the "stay pattern" was for the different awards? I did 270 nights last year and got the measley 10K. Was I penalized because of the attitude: "We don't need to give him the 35K - he's going to stay with us regardless!"

annerj Apr 29, 2004 3:24 pm

it was 15 nights/25,000 points for me.

I just got off the phone with Marriott (1-888-marriott) and was told that the promotion that I received would be the only one I could do. And that additional nights would get me nothing and there was no way they could change me to a higher night/reward promo.

Please post back if anyone has any luck stepping up their promo.

Same result here. I was given the 7 nights 10K option and have made the 7 nights already, although the 7th night yet to post.

NJUPINTHEAIR Apr 29, 2004 4:13 pm

Well, I am sorry if they are not allowing you to do this, but I indicated that YMMV.

Moreover, I hope that I did not get that Marriott employee in any difficulty, although past Marriott responses to individuals trying to help us have been pretty brutal to those who have tried to do so -- and I am not discussing Socrates, here.

I could have given it some thought and not posted my good luck with respect to this promotion and instead have kept this under my hat and thereby probably would have suceeded in gaining additional points, but I consider this a community and I decided to share the wealth as much as possible.

I have yet to stay the additional nights that I would have needed to obtain the additional bonus, and if my actions result in my not getting any additional bonus points, so be it.

However, I encourage all of you to to visit the Hyatt board and review the thread that I had started about a specific and unknown Hyatt bonus, as well as Hyatt's very different attitude towards my dissemination of same.

The different reactions to these similar issues by these two corporate entities, as well as the one that I cited above, is the central reason why I identify myself as more of a "Hyatt" person than a "Marriott" person.

My earlier post wasn't meant to mean I didn't appreciate your letting in on your good fortune, because I do. After all, isn't that the spirit of FT?

Maybe being a Plat, the elite line was willing to do more than for this lowly silver. ;)

NJUPINTHEAIR Apr 29, 2004 9:10 pm

Oh, I wasn't offended by your post...

TCook,

Don't worry, I didn't take your post that way. I think it pretty silly for Marriott not to encourage people to stay more at their properties. After all, isn't that what that bonus is all about??

And, if people wanted to be able to earn more points by permitting them to reach another goal, shouldn't they let them?

I posted that article that Marriott plays it very tough with its franchisees and I have always felt that in some way, they have taken their best customers for granted by virtue that they are a behemoth and apparently have no porblems filling their rooms.

For instance, isn't it really penny anty for them to deny the extension of a comp breakfast for at least their Platinum members on weekends?

Although the property may offer that themselves, with Hilton offering that to every gifted Gold member, isn't pretty cheap for Marriott not to insist that their highest tier -- which stay at least 25 nights above the Hilton Diamond level -- and therfore, probably stay about 70 nights above even the most newbie Gold -- Gold after 4 stays/night -- get a comp breakfast on the weekends? That, and their tier levels are entirely out of whack with their competition, and this forum has seen a number of defections to other programs, and rarely, I think, people who defect from another program to Marriott.

So, no, I did not take your post the wrong way, but if it is true that they are limiting the "add on" bonus to higher tier members, I think that is just silly, and worse, a bad business move.

Just my 2 breakfast's worth.

Or to deny Plats comp breakfast at Courtyard every day.

exawb Apr 30, 2004 8:50 am

I just called MR and convinced them to give me the 15k for 10 nights instead of the crappy 10k for 7 night promo. I couldn't get any more out of them but was pleased they gave me what they did, especially as I have already stayed 15 nights with them.

I do not understand their rationale behind the different offers, that they need to make it more difficult for gold and plat members to earn the promo and therefore require additional nights for more points. Shouldn't it just be 10 nights for 15k and 15 nights for 20k or something like that?

Got Mine!

Just got off the phone with Marriott Rewards. I asked about greater bonus than the 15k that I got for 10 nights. The rep looked at my account and said that she would go ahead and "make up the difference" seeing that I had over 20 nights in April alone. Thanks for the heads up and the 20k points. The brings the total to 35k for the bonus.

I am really glad for you all! Then, at least the MR CSR who talked to me and said that this was going to be done indicates that this was no fluke!

Wow, Marriott, you are surpising me!!! ^

Marriott is becoming more customer friendly with these great promotions and CSRs who are going out of their way to encourage our loyalty! :)

Must have been a change at the top of the Marriott Rewards program! ^

And Look!

I edited my earlier post just so I would not jinx us, just as PointFreak said!!!!

Socrates, well, by my counts, it has been well over 1 year since the mysterious Seeking Information started a thread indicating that Marriott was seriously considering having an official presence on this board.

I might actually be retired -- which I don't anticipate for at least another 20 years -- before we get this promise fulfilled!!

However, I did note above, that things seem to be better with respect to the promos now being offered, etc., so who knows, maybe it will occur sooner, perhaps next year?? :(

Well if I had to guess I'd say probably this year.....but then I would have said that last year too (and the year before that too)

ohmark May 1, 2004 10:41 am

Had 15 stay, 25,000 point offer. At NJUITA's suggestion called MR this morning. Was increased to 35,000 points w/o additional requirement. Was told they are doing this for plats, upon request. Thanks NJ. Now about those breakfasts......

annerj May 1, 2004 1:45 pm

I called the standard # for my request (on my last post) but will try the Plat line on Monday....I'll update when I find out.

annerj :p

annerj May 3, 2004 10:50 am

Called the Plat line today and they told me since I'd already stayed my 15 nights (for 25k) that they would just go ahead and give me the additional 10k points!

VERY NICE.

Moral for me was not to call the 1800marriott # but use the plat line instead. Thats the fastest 55k points I've ever gotten (35 for promo and 20 for the visa promo)

MCOisHOME2ME May 3, 2004 11:44 am

WooHoo - 25,000 Marriot Points in 90 Seconds!

That is certainly going to go down as the fastest & easiest points/miles/etc. in my personal history. Called 1-800-321-7396 and spoke to a nice dude named Jonathan. Basically said, "I'm calling about the Megabonus Promo. I was targeted with 7 nights for 10K points, but I understand there were other members targeted with promotions up to 35K points. Is there anyway I can qaulify for one of the higher levels?"

He was like, "sure is, and since you've already had a sufficient number of nights stayed, I'll credit those to your account right now"... pause, pause, click-click-click... "There you go, just added another 25,000 points to your account".

DAMN! That fariggin' easy.

Thanks a bunch to the original poster.

paradocs May 3, 2004 11:50 am

Golds and Silvers

I called and was told "no way" can we change the terms of your bonus (7 nights = 15K. Only when I mentioned that some friends of mine had been upped to the maximum of 35K did the rep say "well that's only for platinums."

Has anyone who is not platinum had the offer increased? Should a gold or silver pursue it any further? Thanks for your opinions.

flyerwife May 3, 2004 11:59 am

Congrats to those who were able to benefit by changing to the better offer. Just completed the 15th night for this promo 4 days ago, and the 35k bonus points posted this morning. Quick and efficient. Good job, Marriott.

Bring on the Visa bonus!

I just fllowed this script to get me an easy 15K points. It took less than a minute, and "Zak" seemed to be really appreciative that I took the time to call and ask for the points.

Well done MR.

Good Luck!

Well NJ, I just made the call and I too received the additional 10,000 points and didn't have to complete any additional stays. (I have several booked anyway) I was feeling lucky today with the new lurker. Two great events with Marriott in one day!

Thanks for the tip!! ^

rmyadsk May 4, 2004 9:31 am

No go

This lowly Silver was targeted for 7 nights / 10,000 points, the bottom of the barrel. That's unfortunate because I've stayed about 20 nights since the promotion began in mid-February. I called the number above but the CSR said pretty plainly that the terms of the promotion say it can't be changed, and that I'm essentially stuck with what I have.

I guess I was hoping Marriott might give me some slack in changing this because I'm well on my way to Gold this year.

Rejected.

tpasol May 4, 2004 9:39 am

I made my phone call yesterday to the PlatPrem line. I was at the 15 night/25K bonus level. The young lady helping me had never heard of the 35K bonus ceiling. She took my cell phone number and indicated she would speak to her supervisor and call me back. She called back 15 mins later and indicated that she got it OK'd and that it would show up on my account. I checked this morning and it was ALREADY THERE!! Yippee. Every little bit helps, my wife has already spent 220K points this year alone. :(

swps May 4, 2004 10:56 am

I too made a call to MR and Terry was very nice and checked to see if I made the qualifications for the reward. I already long ago had the 15 nights/25k posted and as we talked on the phone about the nice weather in Utah she added the additional 10k points to my account. Glad I called. :)

rmyadsk May 4, 2004 11:39 am

Rejected again

If at first you don't succeed, fail, fail again. CSR said that a Silver member couldn't change the threshold that was offered to them. :(

NJUPINTHEAIR May 4, 2004 12:08 pm

I was told -- and the posts on this thread seem to confirm -- that the only individuals eligible to receive additional points for additional nights stayed will be Platinum level members.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I thought I would save you the trouble and disappointment. :(

NJ

BigLar May 6, 2004 3:27 pm

Well, NJ, I am a plat, so I called and they told me they could offer me an additional 25K for 15 more nights (since the end of the promo). Since I already had 10 in, and a stay of 3 that hadn't posted yet, and 4 coming this week, it's a slam dunk for me. Thanks again, NJ!

BTW, I'd like to point out again one of the seldom-trumpetted benefits of being a top-level elite: they really go all out to make sure the right thing happens for you. While I'm sure everybody gets taken care of, being a platinum means they go the extra mile for you.

boltor May 6, 2004 6:55 pm

This also demonstrates a major benefit of FlyerTalk. Had it not been for FT, I wouldn't even be aware that there was a difference in the way Marriott Rewards targeted its members for this bonus; never mind me getting the extra 15K points. :)
