2 bedroom suites...
 

hi there,

i have a cat 1-5 7 night travel package booking to redeem. I’m looking for some insight into any 2 bedroom suites that Marriott offers as a standard redemption within these catagories (happy to use more points to upgrade to a cat 6 or 7 if there is something great out there. )

im Europe based and travelling with wife and 3 year old but have enough miles to travel to most parts of the world so what I’m looking for - if such thing exists - is a list of hotels that have two bedrooms suites as a standard award.

I know now everything changes in August but just checking my options before it changes.

The only two bedroom rooms I've encountered within the MR portfolio were at Residence Inns and I've never seen them eligible for points redemptions. Good luck!

i know the Marriott harbour suites in dubai is a 2 bed suite as standard but it’s a category 8 which is higher than I want to use and 7 nights in Dubai is a little longer than I would want.

Check out some MVC properties - the one in Atlantic city, St kitts all have 2 bedroom suites as standard rooms. Keep in mind that it would require extra points on top of the cat level.

Do you need a full two-bedroom suite (max capacity of 6-8 people) or would a one-bedroom suite with a sofabed (max capacity of 4-5) in the living room be sufficient?

2-bedroom suites are going to be impossible to find as a base award with any category hotel. If you're lucky, they'll be an upgrade award (your existing certificate plus additional points or cash per night), and even then the 2-bedrooms are exceedingly rare.

If a 1-bedroom suite with a sofabed in the living room will work, then hundreds of properties open up to you across multiple brands both city and resort. Some as a base award and some as an upgrade award, but probably a modest cost. I've done MVCI awards in 1-bedroom units with a $50/nt. upgrade charge, and they are usually quite roomy. Comfortable enough for two adults, a teenager, and a 10-year-old.

I would start by telephoning the property and get ahold of a sales manager or room assigner (don't get yourself transferred to off-site central reservations). Explain your requirements and see what can be done. Do you really need a 2 BR suite or is it space and privacy? Would a second non-adjoining room just down the hall work?

Once you know your options, you can also work with the property on pricing.

The two bedroom suite was the ideal as our three year old has been in her own room for a long time now and when we have had to stay in a standard room, we all end up waking each other up.

Seems from what youre saying is that the Marriott harbour suites in Dubai may be the only one that has two bedrooms as standard.

May need to to think more about MVC and paying the upgrade costs - I’m assuming I can do this at time of booking?

Not as familiar with outside the US, but in the US at least, you're going to have a hard time finding a decent Cat 5 to spend a week in, let alone one that offers a 2 BR as a standard room.

Do you have status? I'd think for the most part your options are either book a Residence Inn or Towneplace Suites and beg for an upgrade, or invest a significant amount more points to be able to book the 2 BR. But as mentioned, your best bet to even find one is probably MVCI properties, and they're likely to be Cat 7's or higher AND require points or cash to upgrade - but yes you can do this at time of booking to secure the upgrade. (Edit: Maybe 2 BR's were standard at St. Kitts, I must've been thinking of upgrading to a better view).

Few hotels have genuine two bedroom suites, but some can form a two bedroom suite using a one bedroom suite and an adjoining room.

Just had a look at the st kitts option. Think that may be the way to go...

cat 7 was as much as I wanted to invest in to be honest. My main motivation for getting the travel package was the air miles. The 7 night hotel was just an added bonus of the deal and now looking at what I can do with it....

Just qouted St kitts and it came up with 280k points for 7 nights - thats 10k points more per night. If you indeed go down this route I would suggest book faster as availability in MVC is a mirage - they dont participate in no blackout dates.

Also I dont know whether you can apply a travel certificate on an upgraded room. You need to call and check on that.

You can always book with flexible cancellation so that you can cancel later if plans change. Thats what I always do.

Do let us know if you are able to book St kitts using the travel certificate and paying the extra points.
