I have recently started a MR account because I have been staying in the same hotel very often when traveling for business.

unfortunately as all our work travel is booked by an agent, none of my nights seem to be qualifying.

I don’t have the choice to book the travel directly.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can get my nights to wuakify? (Instructions to give to the agent etc)

Give your MR number at the desk at check in. Do you pay for the stay or is it direct billed to the company? If the latter, you may be out of luck sadly.

It may be the agent is using an OTA to book the rooms and that could be causing the failure. Or they are not submitting your MR number and giving it to the front desk could help. I also recall reading about a manager booking his staff's stays under his account to get the credit (seemed worked more often than not). Maybe that's "part" of their compensation.

And, actually, it's master bills that would not be covered, but direct bills would be ok.

I’ve tried giving my number at the desk, it gets me points for incidental spending, but not the stay itself or qualifying nights.

Is your credit card being billed for the stays/do you expense the room, or does the company pay for the room & you're only required to pay for incidentals?

sounds like the stay is booked in a way that does not earn points or stay credit. Probably nothing you can do here.

OP - How are your rooms billed (other than incidentals)? Do you pay for the room with a CC or is the room itself billed back to your employer in one form or another?

It is also possible that your employer or an agent for your employer, has negotiated a discount with Marriott which does not include points. Your employer gets a better rate for that.

But, the real bottom line question to you is what did Marriott say when you called to ask why the rate is not qualifying. Until you get a clear answer, it is hard to advise what the next steps, if any exist, might be.

The travel agent invoices the company for everyone’s travel. I pay the incidentals on my CC.

When I asked at the hotel, all they could say was that it was “the way the room was booked and paid for”

Yes, that will do it. I'm guessing they have negotiated a rate that precludes MR credit. There will be a time a property will mess up and give you a copy of what the TA is paying and I'd bet that's not even close to what they are billing your company (that's how businesses work - on profit).
