When does status end?

New to travel benefits. Are Marriott levels like airline levels meaning the year to qualify and then you get that level the next year?

I am plat with Marriott right now. Do start over January 1st with only my rollover?

ehallison Oct 13, 2016 10:36 am

If you qualified this year, then your status is good for next year, and then mid-to-late February 2018. A couple of years ago when my husband didn't requalify for Plat, he was back to Gold for a stay on Feb 22 or 23.

CPRich Oct 13, 2016 11:02 pm

Agreed. If you qualified in 2015 for the 2016 year, it is good until late Feb 2017. If you qualified this year, it's good for the rest of the year, all of next year, and until late February 2018.

And if someone attained Marriott Platinum by linking to a Platinum-level SPG account, then both accounts will have the same elite level and the same expiration.

In other words, if a Platinum SPG member linked his or her account to a base or Silver or Gold Marriott Rewards account this week, then that Rewards account would be Platinum too -- but only through the expiration date of the Platinum SPG level, not necessarily through all of 2017. If the SPG account qualifies for another year, then the Rewards elite level would continue too.

OK, so SPG ends benefits last day of FEB and Marriott seems to do it sometime in FEB, starting from end of JAN.
I'm Marriott Platinum due to my SPG earned Platinum but won't requalify this year. This means my SPG benefits will end at the end of FEB. When will my Marriott Platinum benefits end? Exactly same time or potentially a few weeks earlier.
I'm not requalifying, but planning a vacation in FEB involving SPG and Marriott properties.....so it's kinda essential for me to understand.

SkiAdcock Apr 22, 2017 6:19 am

I think Marriott goes close to the end of Feb.

Cheers.

I was busted down from Plat to Gold a few years ago and my bust took place about a week before end Feb. I remember cos I had a stay on 25th Feb for GF birthday and was hoping to get Plat points, but was already relegated to Gold before checkin day...

crimsona Apr 23, 2017 9:28 pm

Usually it's the last Sunday of Feb

This is for sure. Today was the day. No trumpets, no fanfare, no e-mail "sorry to see you go", just - bam!

BrightlyBob Feb 26, 2018 3:13 am

Me too, PP on Saturday, plain ol’ Plat today

How to find out what year my status expires?

What year did you earn your status?

Yesterday!

CPRich Feb 26, 2018 9:19 am

If you met an elite level criterion yesterday based on nights in 2018, your status should expire the last Sunday of February 2020.

That's by the traditional MR program rules. If/when the program changes this year to integrate SPG, that may or may not change.

My status dropped to Silver but it was supposed to match my SPG Gold.... Gotta contact them now...

Unless you have a booking to do or a stay soon, just sit back a week or so and see if they catch up. The systems are not integrated so periodic sweeps are needed to sync things up. If it fails to sync after that, then a call might be needed.

Thanks ... good idea. I just booked a random hotel date and the email confirmation says I'm a Plat Premier. So maybe ...

And, as an edit, I logged into the UK site and am listed as a Plat Premier there (although the US site only has Plat)

But I haven't received the gift/card

Twickenham Feb 26, 2018 3:10 pm

Interesting... The website still has my status as gold, even though I didn't meet the nights requirement. Wonder if I'll get a bye...

OliverB Feb 26, 2018 6:56 pm

Mine dropped to Silver as well... it's still Gold Preferred on Starwood.

OliverB Feb 26, 2018 11:01 pm

I called HH customer service who made some calls, acknowledged the error, and confirmed that it'd be resolved within 24hrs. I'm a bit annoyed because I actually had a stay tonight and of course, my status was never recognized. It was just a one-night business stay so I don't care too much, but talk about lousy timing. My Ritz status also dropped and I have an upcoming stay in Tokyo in 3.5 weeks so I'm really glad that I noticed this.

MsEverywhere Feb 27, 2018 11:32 am

The res I made for this weekend shows my PP status, so I guess I've been renewed.

From the other thread that mentioned PPs have Ambassadors, maybe I'll call & find out who my Ambassador is.

GateGuardian Feb 27, 2018 11:35 am

I only did about 43 nights last year, but seem to still have Platinum status... I hope it doesn't drop as I have a reservation the first week of March :S

I did get an email stating that my United Silver status was renewed though....

Yeah I have a stay at the end of March so hopefully they'll resolve it soon. They said they'll fix it through email but added a line about how "temporary statuses" do not match. I wonder if that pertains to Amex Platinum SPG Gold status.

I don't think that's accurate. I am a PP and have an ambassador. There are others on the forum who are plats and have an ambassador. There are others who are PP and do not have am ambassador.

I'm not sure how Marriott decided who gets am ambassador as part of the test program but in may case I have several thousand nights, am a lifetime plat, have been a member of MR for many years, and have been PP for the past several years (and apparently renewed this year -- I guess since I haven't received anything).

Hopefully, as the programs are integrated, this whole PP benefits/standards and ambassador will be more transparent.

Was Marriot status reset on February 28, 2018. Today, March 1, 2018, logged onto my Marriot Account and it shows that I am Gold Status.

Does this mean I am Gold Status from now till February 28, 2019?

CPRich Mar 1, 2018 8:48 am

Unless there's a glitch, which is often possible, it should be good until the next expiration cycle, which is reported as the last Sunday in February - 2019 in this case.

Or some new process and date from an integrated MR/SPG program, which could change everything.

milesmutt Mar 1, 2018 9:58 am

I stopped traveling for work at the end of October due to a career change, so I thought I would lose my PP status, yet
it still shows Plat Premier on the Marriott app today.

The app also says I would renew PP at 75 nights, but I only have 64 as of today.

Maybe I'm good for another year?

I called to inquire if my PP status had been renewed. She said yes, through Jan 31, 2019. So I guess the date has changed, from end Feb to end Jan, like many (most? all?) of the airlines have done.

phant0m Mar 3, 2018 7:47 pm

I found out my issue. Somehow my SPG Gold membership fell off my account from my Amex Platinum in turn it fell off my Marriott account. I relinked my SPG. Hopefully my Marriott refreshes soon.
