I think you're extrapolating a lot of your own personal beliefs/opinion & trying to present them as 'facts'. Unless you violate TOS of course you can do so, but given we've had SPG elites having different experiences, valuing different things to what you value & not positing that they speak for the majority of any elite level, it doesn't necessarily make you right on all your items nor make them facts.
I'm also a bit perplexed on why you're spending so much time here if you don't intend to stay at Marriotts. So far what you've done for the most part is denigrate the Marriott program, its properties & its elites in this thread & others. I don't see how that is helpful. I'm spending time on both forums, but a # of my posts are to try & answer questions for SPG (or even Marriott) elites when they have questions about how the program(s) work or what's being done or explaining some of what is happening per the T&Cs. I'm sure your fellow FTers would appreciate it if you chose to do the same. Cheers. I don't understand too if someone doesn't like a company's product or service, why spending so much time posting on the company's forum or fan site. Just like some Android fans waste much time spreading hatred on Apple's fan sites regarding new iPhones..etc. |

Aggggg. Linked, but just a bit too late for me unfortunately. I need a stay at an SPG property on points for a wedding. It was available about a week ago but not any more (at least not without a minimum stay that is too long). Had this been in place then I could have transferred pts from MR to SPG to cover the stay.

Keep checking. If it changes, do the transfer.
Checked again today and the SPG hotel was available again! Did an instant transfer of 60k MR to 20k SPG and booked instantly! Still cheaper than the 70k I was going to use for 2 nights at the Renaissance instead and we get to stay at the wedding site instead of having to take Uber back and forth. |

I know this isn't FAQs. But one more earning question. I can't seem to find this anywhere on th SPG site.
MR only gives points for hotel rate only at most of their brands. The exception is their full service brands, Marriott, JW Marriott, Renaissance and there might be more. SPG hotels- Do they pay points on incidental charges? If so, is it brand specific like MR? |

Some charges are not eligible to earn points (3rd party-operated spas and parking, for example) but no, it's not hotel brand-specific. |

In this context it's worth noting that you do NOT need to be staying in a hotel to earn SPG points for restaurant/drinks. Simply presenting your card should suffice.

Trying to figure this out. I'm Marriott Gold.
Is the status match a one time thing, or if I achieve a higher status in SPG in 2017, can I match again? It seems like a huge loophole, but why wouldn't I just do 25 stays at SPG next year and then match to MR Platinum? 25 stays at Marriott would probably net me 35 nights and I'd be Silver...I could probably do 25 stays by July/August. So any harm in matching to SPG Gold now? Doesn't seem like it, but isn't it too good to be true? Not that the are really any useful benefits to SPG gold except higher point earning. As a side note, I'd already be lifetime Gold if I'd stayed at SPG from the beginning. Only half way there in points in the MR program. Hard to believe how easy status is there. |

Does anyone know the answer to the question, whether it's possible to match again after reaching a higher status in one of the programs?
And while Marriott can always change the rules, right now, I'd guess you will always have the highest level between the two up to the point where the accounts are truly combined into a single account. |

Once your accounts are matched, they are matched. Your status in both programs will be based on your highest level in each.

Correct. The accounts are linked - so as your elite status changes in either program the "matching" of status updates automatically with the highest of the two prevailing.

Is it known if SPG points that are transferred to MR count towards MR lifetime status?

I have linked Marriott and SPG accounts, to Platinum due to SPG. Next membership year, I will slip down to SPG Gold - I assume this means matches across to Marriott Gold? The reason I ask is that Marriott Gold benefits are a little better than SPG's for example, Lounge access.
