Hello everyone. I just found this forum last week and have really enjoyed reading up on all things related to Marriott Rewards. I have just started traveling for work in the last few weeks and reached the Silver status. My question is do I receice an actual card or anything? Reason I'm asking is that one of the benefits says present card in gift shop for 10% (or 20% don't remember) off. Should I be expecting something in the mail?

Probably won't get one in the mail unless you go on marriott.com and request one.

Marriott has recently stopped issuing physical cards by default. You can access the "card" via their mobile app for presentation at gift shops.

Sometimes when I check in I get a card that offers 10% off at the gift shop.

It's supposed to be an elite status benefit, but I don't know the rules. IIRC I used it once a could years ago at a Ren.

If they can't pull up your status in the gift shop (likely the case) can you charge to your room and sort out at the front desk?

Probably; and you want to charge it to your room anyway so you get points.

Welcome to FT. On another note....

You've obviously made it to Silver pretty quickly. Gold is next, but it's 40 more stays away. You might want to call Marriott Rewards and ask if you can get a challenge to get there faster. The worst that can happen is that they'll say no. If they say yes, you will need to complete a certain number of stays within a certain number of days to get bumped up to Gold. The benefits at Gold include more bonus points per stay, free enhanced Internet and CL access.

It's worth a try.

Good idea on the challenge. I am at 25 nights now. Currently on a 12 night stay in NYC at the Carlton. So that will put me at 37 nights at the end of next week. I have 3 more weeks coming up in April (back in NYC). So do I just call and ask for a Gold challenge or are there specific things I need to mention?

Just call and ask. But, you are closer already than I realized, so it might not be worth it at this point. I assumed you had just hit Silver at ten stays. It's still worth calling to ask, but most challenges require almost as many nights as you already need to meet GM. Maybe you could ask for a Plat challenge.

I would definitely call (rewards not reservations) and ask for a platinum status challenge. Point out the recent stays you've had and the upcoming ones.

Just for completeness, it is 40 nights away (disregarding the later info on 25 nights) except if you only do 1-night stays (which the OP also is not with his upcoming 12-night stay).

Thanks for the clarification. You are correct. The majority of my stays are one night, hence the confusion/sloppiness. It is nights, not stays.
