Now, I don't know if it is just me or bugs in my profile, but when I do make such a request, it does not seem to "stick" and make its way into the final confirmed reservation.

What I have found that I have to do to actually get it to "stick" is to indicate a King, click through to almost the final step before committing and confirmation and then 'BACK-CLICK" again to the room selection and again choose the bed type requested. Only after "back-clicking" and again selecting the bed type and then click onwards in the reservation process, does my bed choice selection actually get confirmed.

Since I have been making a plethora of reservations lately, I concur with Sharon and you and find this enhancement to be a big PIA.

Now I have found 2 ways in addition to the method you described above to guarantee ones preferred room type.

1) On the rate selection screen before selecting the rate, click on the + sign in front of the statement Room & Accessibility Preferences (optional). Your preferred room type will be selected. Then click the Continue button for that rate.

2) If you forget to do step 1 above, then on the next screen click the edit link where it says Room edit right below the Dates and above the room description. This pretty much does the same thing as the BACK-CLICK method you described.

I given up complaining about Marriott's web site and their IT's lack of regression testing, logic and lack of attention to time management from the users perspective; except passing comments like this one where I share my own personal work around and experience.

OT - the other thing that totally annoys me is going to View all reservations. What used to take 2 clicks now takes 5 clicks.
  1. Sign into your Marriott account
  2. Click My Reservations in upper right corner of web page
  3. The in drop down box click on View All Reservations (this is a lie, because only the first 5 reservations are listed)
  4. Then down toward the bottom of the reservations page click the View drop down box.
  5. Click All and finally all your reservations will be listed

Workaround is to save this link, or one similar, on your toolbar:
Code:

https://www.marriott.com/reservation/findReservationList.mi?upcomingResRecordsPerPage=40&toggleUpcoming=true
Change 40 in the link above to whatever number you want. It does not have to be exact. If I only have 23 reservations (or any number up to 40) it will still work, but if I have 53 reservations it will only list 40.

To use the link above and to display all of your reservations in 2 clicks:
  1. Sign into your Marriott account
  2. Click on the link you saved on your toolbar; by default it has the Marriott logo and I titled mine to be Reservations

I went ahead and left the OT info in my previous post, but since it was OT I actually started a new thread for stuff like this which may be found at http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marri...l#post22842360.

I don't think I was doing either 1) or 2) before, and as I said, I can easily book a res with no "Guaranteed room" by just clicking through and never selecting a room. If I was building the web site, I think I would have had it default to preferred room type and display it, rather than defaulting to nothing and hiding behind the "+." But that's me.

Come to think of it, though, it does seem like my issues with getting doubles did start around the web site "update." I agree that many things are now buried.

Thanks for point outs on how to fix the problem.

You're welcome.

And welcome to the world of Marriott "enhancements". If you do a search on "enhancements", you will undoubtedly find extensive discussions of Marriott IT screw ups over the past years. Many of us dreaded hearing that word, and after repeated bugs and other screw ups by the IT staff, have become very jaded and cynical about the whole subject. So much so, that in the past couple years I have made fewer comments because it was a huge waste of my time in the past. I and others just tend to accept the inadequacies of their web site.

It is the nature of computer programming that when you add new features or even fix bugs, that new bugs are introduced or functionality that was there disappears. In the case of this particular anomaly, since Marriott employees don't use the website, when they test they do minimal testing, for example testing the new + feature and go "Wow, that's cool", but then neglect to do any regression testing from a user perspective, so totally miss that a member's the default room type is not automatically selected.

I've been working in the IT field for 35+ years, and have had extensive experience with QA testing, and Marriott fails miserably in this area. Unfortunately, they introduce their enhancements and updates piecemeal so this happen a few times a year, and it is always interesting to see what they broke this time. Note there is no question as to IF they broke something, but what they broke.

Change In Bedding Preferences?

I noticed something when looking at my MR account today. In my profile, my bedding choice is now king/queen. In the past, it was only just king. The only choices for bed types now are king/queen, two double beds, no preference. Did I miss something?

When I called the PLT desk, they said they show my preference as king.

Wonder if this might have a ramification on the guarantee for room type.

Uck oh! Could it be yet another unannounced cutback where properties are allowed to downsize to Queens? Or perhaps its because certain brands like RI only have Queens (IIRC)? Time will tell...

It's been this way for more than three years: Room Preference Profile Issue (Mar 12, 2014).
