Marriott e-cert expiry date

Hi All,
I received a free night in up to a cat 4 hotel when I got the Marriott Chase credit card. I thought the date associated with it was the book-by date, not the expiration date. Looks like I was wrong, and I can live with that. However, has anyone ever had any success in having the date extended by them?
Thanks.

I once got a 6-month extension on the cert.

When I tried to extend the certificate, the agent started looking at my stay records and spending records, said that they have these thing to get members to use the credit card, I have not stayed enough with them, have not spent enough, etc. etc.

I have only 8 nights so far this year (excluding rollovers) but the year is young, I have been on vacation and also cancelled once due to weather. I met the initial $1000 agreement for the 70K bonus but have been putting most of my spending on 2 other Chase Cards + the SPG AMEX.

I think he was about to give me another condition to meet to extend the certificate. I was somewhat annoyed that he started doing this to a loyal Platinum member who has been Platinum most of the last 10+ years and will be Liftetime in just a few months.

So, I told him never mind, I will use the certificate and I intend to cancel the Chase card anyway. Then he started telling me the Chase card is better than any other card...

I think he is probably overly loyal to his company (he said he has been there for a while) and wants to do things he thought would benefit the company. Unfortunately, I think he forgets that little things you do for a Platinum member can go a long way to build loyalty and nickle-and-diming obstacles will only lose the customer for the long term.

The whole conversation was pleasant but I just did not think it was his place, as a Marriott Rewards Agent (not even Chase), to do all these things to increase credit card usage.

The worst part is that he didn't even know he annoyed me and made me a little less loyal. He gave me his name and extension so I can ask him for future service. Come to think of it, I might have talked to him a few years ago about another problem which also ended up without a positive result. I will definitely avoid him!

All my other calls to Rewards over the years have always yielded good results. For example, I have never been denied when I wanted to switch promotion. There is something about how this guy...and he means well for his company....

Anyway...Did your agent attach any condition to the extension?

Marriott e-cert expiry date

My understanding is that only Chase can extend their certs.

I did this about a year ago via email to Chase from within their web site. They cancelled and replaced it with another 6 month e-cert.

update--they told me to basically pound sand. I met the initial spend as a poster above did, and they said start spending more and maybe we can reevaluate in a few months.

sorry but it makes sense, they know many folks will get the CC and once they used up the bouns pts (50-70) that you got plus used the cert that the CC will be closed and a very small % will remain booking with MR

On the other hand if you have been with their program and had Elite status that was high enough they are known to bend over backwards.

I think they are very smart since they know many folks wont be staying with their program, and will say well if you dont extend it then theres no sense for me to stay with you, and they say well youve been with us for x months and have 0 rev stays why should we expect that to change if we extend the cert

I have three e-certs due to expire end of this months; cs was able to extend for another year.

Last year I called Marriott and asked the rep to extend the date. I had a reservation in place for less than a month after my cert expired that I wanted to use it for. Got a six-month extension.

When you report your results please clarify if it is a MegaBonus cert or a Chase cert.

Chase Cert Data Point...
Put about $3500 spend on the card from Aug 20-Sept 20 (two statements). No spend after that. I secure-messaged Chase Jan. 16 and they extended the Cat 1-4 certificate for another 6 months.

A colleague of mine, Gold, last week got two cat 1-4 (Mega) and one cat 1-5 e-cert (New membership promotion) prolongated for 12 months.

I called the Platinum GS # on 1/14 and requested an extension of a Chase 1-5 cert that was expiring and had no problems getting it extended. New extension date of 7/14/15.

Chase card for 2 years as my secondary card.
