This morning, outside the door of the CL at the Chicago Mag Mile FS, there sat a woman with a list of who was CL-eligible. She was checking everyone as they entered the CL to see if they were on her printed list of ~140 people staying at the hotel who were permitted access.

EXCELLENT!

Now we need every Marriott to implement this.

Count me in. My biggest gripe last year is crowded CL lounges in the morning. There was more thant a few instances where I gave up on breakfast as the lounge was a zoo.

Hope they make this a system-wide policy

Me too.

Not only was the verification quick and easy, but the woman doing the verification was such a joy. Having her say good morning was a great way to start the day: hardly a burden!

I wonder if they were also seeing how many actually use the CL.

Sounds like they were implementing the policy on the new Courtyard DND signs:

Counting sheep and taking names!

At 7:00 am, the CL was not overcrowded. It is a large CL, and the last minute rate I snagged would indicate the hotel isn't anywhere close to full, but I found their checking who was using lounge interesting and wondered if it kept the CL from getting crowded.

They were doing this at this hotel when I stayed there back in July. I think it was also the week of a large conference (although it's possible they might do it all the time?)

While I think it's not a bad idea to do all the time, I definitely think they should do it during large conferences. Too many times I've seen someone who has access bring in a # of folk who don't have access during conferences & it definitely overcrowds the lounge.

Cheers.

The woman was delightful, and I was curious, so we had quite the conversation. (Sounds wrong, sorry....) She said they used to do this, but the woman who checked the names had left the hotel's employ, so the hotel stopped. They were just starting to do it again. I don't know if it is something they were going to continue or if it was just for when the hotel had something going on.

Good on them. You would be amazed at how many people with decent incomes and good jobs will commit petty scams for a $2 muffin.

You guys do realize that this costs the hotel money to staff it like this so this money spent checking is money taken away elsewhere whether in the CL or not only the hotel knows but it may be one less choice in the lounge or a service or product taken away elsewhere

A # of hotels have more than 1 person staffing the exec lounge, so if they assign one to check names at the door it's not costing them more as they're already working. Also they might make it up on the F&B budget for the lounge when the freeloaders aren't allowed into the lounge to eat/drink like they'd never seen food/booze before ;)

Cheers.

If only two of the people that are turned away pay to eat in the restaurant the hotel wins.

You either need to check your math or show your work.

Great idea. I wish they did it more often.

So there goes the service of refilling the food, cleaning the tables etc.. if one or 50% of the staff is checking names, then expect a big drop in the service.. if there is only one person and many do only have one, then this is an additional cost that will be covered somehow someway by the hotel

how do you figure that?

Say $10 an hour for the lounge dragon + benefits if any

If the lounge is open 3-4 hours in the a.m. and the same in the evening, thats 6-8 hours or $60 - $80 plus bene's

two people are turned away, what makes you think they will eat in the restaurant and not elsewhere, BK across the street, starbucks down stairs, or just wait till later when they get elsewhere?

My guess if they are trying to scam their way into the lounge, they are not likely to be ordering b/f in the restaurant.

Even if they do, its not likely to cover the wages and benefits of the lounge dragon
