i'm well over 2000 nights, including rollover, and nothing special has happened.

About two weeks after I hit 1,000 nights, Marriott announced lifetime PL after 750 nights.

So lifetime status is now being handed out like candy, and has much less value.

Would Marriott consider lifetime PP after say 1,500 nights?

Not now that Arne Sorenson is CEO--program value has been declining.

EVERY 5/15, Marriott jacks point redemptions in a disproportionate manner. Bu I do agree with travelexpert, a really big one is on the way, naturally a result of giving away the store in recent years....

What's magical about 2000? :confused:

Just because it looks cool to you doesn't mean it means anything special at Marriott. Even if Marriott does have some secret special higher number they celebrate, I see no reason to assume that it's specifically 2000. It could be 2048 (if they're into powers of 2), 2020 (if they liked Barbara Walters), 2222 (if they like lots of digit repetition), 2500, 2525 (if they like the Zager & Evans song), 3000, whatever.

My point is that you seem to have picked the 2000 number as some "magic" threshold out of a hat (just because you realized you're approaching it?).

For folks who are at 2000+ MR nights: I'm curious what your travel patterns are like. For example, has it been 10 years of 200 nights/year heavy business travel focused with MR brands? 20 years of 100 nights/year with MR? Possibly while doing another 100/year with another brand?

Part of the reason I'm curious is that while I've traveled 110-125 nights/year for the past several years it's been difficult to focus more than 60-70 nights/year with any one chain. There are factors like property location, (un)competitive prices, and preferences of clients and/or teammates that force me to split my stays across vendors.

Mine have been by staying 99 percent at Marriott. A few are bonus and rollover nights but at least 1600 are bib nights at a rate of 120-150 per year over the past 14 years. Lately I have been enjoying other chains and Centurion wow offers. Still 85 percent is at Marriott.

The reason I've diversified away from Marriott and am working on LT Plat with Starwood is because we don't know which hotel chains will treat their LT elites well and which will treat their LT elites poorly 15+ years from now. I'm also concentrating on Hyatt Diamond, hoping that they'll lower their LT Diamond requirements - currently 1 million base points ($200K hotel spend prior to taxes).
Marriott LT Plat is in the bag; I need less than 90K points to hit 2 million MR points.

You are putting all of your eggs in one basket; I recommend that you diversify IF you have the chance to do so (your company may mandate staying at Marriotts). Starwood is easy to achieve Plat; 25 stays or 50 nights/yr AND award nights count toward status. 10 years as SPG plat and 500 nights should be easy for you.

Starwood does not have enough places close to where I need to be vs. Marriott seems way closer in most cases. Additionally I need to be under USG per diem and I generally can get it via Marriott. As a PP I seem to be able to get hotels that PE does not get when using points. I have an additional 500 nights at via Holiday Inn back in the early 1990s and with about 8 years to go traveling I hope it does not make sense to switch.

I understand, but SPG often comes in at/under USG per diem. You could easily get LT Gold there, giving you an additional travel option after you retire.
You likely aren't going to be traveling at the same pace in retirement and if you decide to travel to Europe, SPG has some aspirational properties. SPG also has a couple of fantastic properties in Florence Italy; my wife and I honeymooned there and in Venice at SPG properties.
