The 48 hour room guarantee benefit is only valid for the Platinum members personal room. Even if you were booking additional rooms at the same hotel for others, it wouldn't work. Unless of course they too are Platinum.

Kind regards,

I'm not sure I fully understand. Were you able to get reservations for yourself and for your two friends? If you have 3 guaranteed reservations, one for each of you, then you should be fine. Are your friend's names on the other two reservations? If they are, then I don't see a problem.

If all three reservations are in your name alone, are the three of you all in the same area? If so, then you might be able to check in at each of the three hotels for your friends, and again, no issues. If the reservations are all in your name only, then you may want to see about getting their names added to the reservation. That should allow them to also check-in for the room.

The reservations are in their names. Or the would they would be if all of was actually happening. Did I forget to mention this is partially hypothetical? Anyway, it would be three rooms, three hotels in the same area, three names.

As I understand from the concierge, if something like this were to actually work, it would be against the spirit of the plat override feature.

That is correct...however the system was upgraded a few years ago and wont allow more than 1 room per day to be booked via the plat override so I'm honestly confused how you were able to book 1 at 3 different hotels (it shouldn't happen)

Platinum Guarantee Availability Check

Would someone mind checking to see if they can force availability at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln, NE for 10/15-10/17? It appears that Plat members can do this online so if it's easy I would really appreciate it. I don't want anyone to have to bother calling.

The reason I ask i that I will be applying for a platinum status match/challenge in the near future since I'll be in a Marriott hotel a ton over the next year or so.

I want to be sure I can get the 18 nights within the period, but if I can get a room at this hotel for that weekend it'll definitely be worth it for me to move some more recent stays around to make sure I can meet the challenge and to apply for it immediately. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for checking. I figured they would have an exemption based on the football weekend, but it was worth a shot.

According to one "resident know-it-all" on here, MI rarely grants these exemptions, and the rooms are supposed to be TURNED OVER to a group. But, as we have witnessed MANY times, MANY MANY hotels are screwing the system!!!

:td::td::td::td::td::td: to MI!

As a matter of fact their rooms were turned over to group on October 15th - A platinum override is available for Saturday October 16th though

Guaranteed Availability: Definition of "during a very limited number of dates..."

Here is the term of the program:

48-hour Guaranteed Availability: Limited to a Platinum member's personal guestroom. Guaranteed room availability for reservations booked 48 hours prior to arrival available at all participating Marriott hotel brands except Marriott Vacation Club International and Horizons by Marriott Vacation Club. Only during a very limited number of dates (for example, special events) are hotels unable to provide this service. This benefit cannot be used in conjunction with award usage or any type of promotional or discounted rates. At Residence Inn and TownePlace Suites, this benefit applies to studio rooms only.

****

Here is my recent experience for a Fairfield Inn in Michigan. The hotel would not honor the platinum override for this weekend - neither the 800 number nor I could get it when I arrived the hotel on Wednesday. Apparently, some soccer game.

Is that really reason to not allow Platinum overrides? Other hotels, including SHS and RI, in the area have rooms so it was not a city-wide event or anything where everyone was full.

Anyway, I made alternative arrangements. When I checked out on Friday, the manager said they had a bunch of cancellations (a group) and I can stay over the weekend if I wanted to. Since my alternative arrangement is at a Renaissance using BOGO, I declined.

It seems stupid for them to disable Platinum override without firming up the group reservations. Not only it is a disservice to Platinum members - they ended up losing revenue.

It's "guaranteed only if we let you" reminiscent of the defunct "stay anytime if we let you" double point rewards of the past...

What Fairfield did you stay at in Michigan?

Always ask them which Marriott Regional Vice-President authorized the suspension of the platinum override. Often times it's a bluff if you have the stones to try to call it. ;)

Yes, the Regional Platinum Override VP approved it. His/her sole job is to approve the tons of Platinum Override exceptions :D

This actually gives me an excuse to try other better hotels :D

Our resident, self-proclaimed, MI cool-aid drinking, "know-it-all" will surely chime in that it is limited, and only if inventory is "turned over".

Well, it seems as if we all now are getting a MUCH better idea of how UNlimited this fleecing really is.

How about if one of our mod's starts a sticky thread and we can keep track of this.

(I really find it hard to believe the OC courtyard 'turned over' all of its inventory EVERY weekend in the summer! :td::td::td:)
