stays at an event
On behalf of my brother to all the Marriott pros out there.
He was recently over at Ritz Carlton New Orleans for an event his company was organising, a sort of a convention. His Marriott Rewards number was already provided to the hotel and they gave him a city view room for being an elite with MR. However, no points posted. no nights or stay credits posted. 2 months down I wrote to the hotel, and I am told all the points have gone to the event planner. Is this correct that there will be no points credit to my bro's account? I could not find this in the FAQ Thanks A |

Sounds like it was master billed which means no nights or points for attendees.

I have had this fight with similar things....
the points are awarded to the person who made and paid the reservation. A slightly different situation...say you and your brother decided to go on a weekend to gether to some city. You are both marriott members. One meade the reservation but you split the bills. The points will get awardered tot he person who made the reservation...but if you can show you paid for the stay that equates to one night you can still get the night credits for promotion purposes. |

It is possible for a company/organization to negotiate a rate that precludes the earning of points or credit for the stay. Properties will lower rates if they can also lower their costs. That's where reading the fine print on the reservation should disclose such things, but I suspect many don't.
Most all hotel programs have a clause that the member must pay & stay in order to get credit. Some extend to direct billings, but not master billings. |

OP - I am experiencing a similar problem right now. I was scheduled to have just the number of stays needed to qualify for the MegaBonus. One of my customers paid for a night. I've tried a few times to get credit for the night's stay - not even the points - and gotten nowhere. Ultimately, I will now be spending a night at a Marriott property between the holidays instead of at a relative's house in FL. (Was going to do a mattress run, but couldn't get DL to give me the extra 18 points to renew PM, so need an extra flight by the end of the year, too.)

If your brother was a MR Platinum member, I think he may have qualified for a Platinum bonus, as well. If he did not get it, he should call, I believe.

I do event planning for a large annual convention. At the Marriott involved we have a master account which picks up the charges for all rooms for our volunteer staff. The only way that our volunteers (including myself) have been able to get credit for nights and get the MR points is to pay for our room and get reimbursed (and supplying our MR# of course.) The rate is the same whether it is paid through the master account or paid individually as it is all part of a negotiated block of rooms.
