i get confused everytime I read about it.

Yes, MR throws out so many different numbers it's easy to get lost. I just go by EARNED nights over CURRENT status threshold rollover. Keeps it simple for me.

I have been Platinum premier for last 2+ years that I can remember.. This year Have ended up staying at Marriott for revenue for about 20 nights only and have 54 nights including the 30 odd roll-over nights from last year.. will I be downgraded to Gold? What chances of staying Plat? anyone stayed Plat premier??

MR has been known to extend status if they perceive you as being a high value customer, due to stay history or company affiliation (or phase of the moon). It's their program and they are allowed to do what they want.

They also have a history of doing soft landings where you drop one level at a time if you don't re-qualify for your status level. So, being Platinum Premier, your next level down is Platinum and then Gold. If you fail to qualify for PP, you should expect Plat after Feb.

great.. hope so.. as 2008-2009-2010-2011 were def good years.. approx 150-200 nights a year at about 250 a night.. so hope they feel this is a blip :)

I was downgraded from Platinum to Gold--and this status expires at the end of February 2013. Is there a way for me to continue getting gold--perhaps through a challenge--or other means? I truly don't need/want Platinum--Gold is good enough for me. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

well i am baffled.. i've been Platinum for the last 4 or 5 yrs w/Marriott, have fallen well short of the 75 nights for the last 2 yrs but been renewed at Platinum anyway.. this year i'll once again be well short (i'll have approx. 46 nights, inc. 15 CC nights, so 31 'real' nights).. however, when i logged into my account just now on the MR website, there is a message that says "Congratulations, you have been renewed at Platinum level for 2011"... You didn't read that wrong-- not 2013, not even 2012-- but 2011.. obviously a mistake, but hopefully this means they'll nudge me back into Plat. again(??)

Account Activity Message??

I was Platinum in 2011 and am a now "soft landing" Gold with only 39 nights for 2012 (Hilton Diamond with 60++ nights). This is the message that is newly posted on my Account Activity: "Congratulations, you have renewed at Gold Elite status for 2011."

Wonder what this is about? Anyone else get this?

i posted the same thing this morning in the thread titled 'Downgrade from Platinum... Always Gold?'... however, now the message is no longer showing up for me-- maybe it was a temporary glitch(?)

I'm at 49 nights and got told I'm Gold for 2011 as well. Assuming that means 2013, I'm a bit grumpy because I was planning to stay at 49 nights, roll into 2013 as a silver with 28 rollover nights, get 15 nights from the credit card and do the 7 nights to get gold again then push the remaining nights to make it to Plat for 2013/2014. Now I hit 2013 with no rollover nights and get to hustle to keep Gold. Maybe a challenge... Hmmm....

(Do you see the kind of thinking that being on Flyertalk makes seem almost natural? :D)

"ff you stay above your Elite level renewal requirement, your 2012 Elite Rollover Nights will be automatically posted to your 2013 account."

This has always been taken on FT to mean that if you don't renew at your current level you do not get rollover nights. But over on Insiders most posters disagree and seem to think you get RO nights if you fall to a lower level and one of them has posted that a MR operator verified this.

Actually, your current elite status does not change at the end of the year. Marriott status' are like a lot of the airlines in that they are good through Feb. of the next year. That means if you are Gold now, you will still be Gold in Jan/Feb of next year. And 49 nights with Gold status means no roll over nights as Marriott doesn't look at your status in March, but at the end of the year.
