Other food for thought: A DND sign on a door is not going to be heeded by the hotel for 48 hours straight. There are health and safety considerations that put the hotel at liability risk if they don't check the room periodically - say, every eight hours or so. (What if you were injured or sick in the room and couldn't call for help?)

So when I have a room for 5 straight nights and put out the DND sign, they still come in and "disturb" the room on a pre-determined schedule when I am away? What is the point of the sign then? Sometimes I have had to work 20 straight hours and instead of going back to the hotel, I sleep on a cot we set up in an empty office and then continue working the next day also. I'll head back to the hotel after the work is done. All told, I am out of the hotel room for almost 48 straight hours. The DND sign on my door has never raised any questions or concerns before, or atleast they have never been brought to my attention. Maybe my hotel just doesn't care enough! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I don't understand how the hotel gets left to foot the bill if a guest leaves early. Isn't the reason they take my credit card when I check in to ensure that they have a way to charge me? </font>
Card no longer works when it is time to check out. Happens all the time. Hotels are simply alert. I hear that the pre-pays are the most risky for credit cards. Entire suites get cleaned out of their valuables including the sheets.

Regarding the issue of saving the company money, our corporate policy dictates that it is permissable to stay at your client site for the weekend in leiu of traveling back home. The cost of two nights at the hotel is way cheaper than the airfare to fly home for the weekend. Accounting wishes more people did that. </font>
Oh, that is very true. Good for him. I hate the way people must fly out every Mon and back every Fri. I was refering to him possible checking out ahead while he was staying with a friend and voluntarily checking in his belongings with the hotel. Not critical simply curious.

I never thought about it that way before. Reminds me of the time when I was checking into a hotel and there were police officers all over the place. The front desk clerk said the hotel had been robbed. Apparently someone had booked two rooms and taken most of the furniture and furnishings out of the rooms. She said they had managed to take the mattresses, one desk, both desk chairs, all the sheets and towels, the ottomans and one of the single-person sofa-like chairs. They also had taken the light bulbs and lamps. What I don't understand is how the people get out the door with all the stuff and how did they even get them loaded onto a truck without anyone noticing? I mean both mattresses, come on! Imagine trying to catch an elevator but it is full because they stuffed furniture into it.

No sweat. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

For people with families or when the client is located in a crappy city, I understand the need to travel back home every weekend. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I guess. In the *wood forum, rrz518 posted the following:

I'll amend that: As a former Director of Housekeeping, here's a few goodies that have been found by us:
- Vibrators
- Knives/swords
- Guns
- Porno videos
- Dildos
- Love Dolls
- Hot oils
- Marijuana, Cocaine, etc.
- Corpses
- Animals: Possums, snakes, wood rats
- Mother-in-law (abandonded her...)

Normal "lost & found" includes clothing, jewelry, cell phone chargers.

(In case you're curious, these hotels are all name brand (big name) reputable places, not flophouses....).

No laptops though so far!!!

If I ever checked into a hotel and found a snake in my room the hotel staff would have to chase me three states over in order to return my possessions to me because I'd be outofthere so fast they wouldn't even see me move.
