I just love kids and look forward to be able to pamper grandsons/granddaughters (includes 1st-class rides and luxurious hotels).

I do not understand this discussion.
Children do not always behave like adults, o.K., but the most children, who stayed in luxurious hotels behave in a manner, which it in many cases better than that of some adults. This perhaps the mostly grow up in a household, which cares for their behaviour. I (born 1974) stayed with my parents many times as child in luxurious hotels and as my parents like “Haute Cuisine” eat in good and expensive restaurants. My parents told me and my brother to be on ones good behaviour. In many restaurants, the waiters show us the kitchen and host us like any other guests, sometimes even better. In Italy, the owner of a two Michelin Star Restaurant told my parents, that we – the children – are the future guests. My parents honoured this by visiting him again two times. The hotel staff does this also, we even got sometimes a bigger room. One times, a member of the hotel staff shows us the hotel, which were quite interesting or opened the pool area earlier because of rainy weather. And let me also say, that I feel more disturbed by the behaviour of some business people, who talk on their mobile phone loudly or put their belongings over the whole table, so that I have no space for my belongings. In my eyes this is not really better, than screaming children. If I am disturbed by children, which has happened several times and the last time in the Sauna of a Sheraton Hotel in Munich, I told them to stay calm and try to explain, why the should do so. Although I am not very old and an perhaps be not a person to respect, they change their behaviour. But I would not say, that Children under an age of 16 should not be allowed to enter the lounge or the concierge level. Not all children are equal, so it is not fair to ban all children only of the wrong behaviour of some few child. Jan |
Jan,
You post is right on mark about some of the business travelers. I think the lounges(hotel and airport) are for relaxing and do business QUIETLY. I've seen groups taking up half the lounge area and conduct regular business meeting, with flip charts and everything. I much rather see a few giggling kids in there feeling cool that there are free munchies and unlimited supply of soda. |
I agree that it's the parents that should be spanked, but even the best kids often make too much noise at hotels.
I still feel that those traveling with kids should not be placed in concierge level rooms. |
And then of course you get the loud drunk biznessmen & women at conventions - they shouldn't be allowed on concierge level either! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Bottom line - whether adult, teenager, child, or dog (some hotels allow them; not sure about Marriott) - proper decorum & good manners should rule the day. ------------------ Sharon |

Even better, place a call to the local CPS unit. The parents will get the message.
I have long advocated creation of a separate section of the plane for families, preferably in the rear of the plane like the old smoking section. I guess we also need to create family floors (or perhaps 'childfree' floors). |

Presumably a moderator will be moving this thread to Omni or Travelbuzz soon since it's gone in that direction rather than focussed on Marriott.
