Lisbon Marriott
Does anyone care to offer any feedback from previous stays at this location? Location, cleanliness? Will be in Lisbon for 3 nights.

I have never beento this property, but cleanliness is very consistent at Marriott hotels.
|
I was there a year ago January when it was in the midst of a refurbishment and found it to be quite satisfactory. I believe that if you do a search, you will find some more comments.

Very nice, easy to get to from the Airport, and when I stayed there last year they really went out of their way to accommodate.
Stayed on a "cheap" rate (under 100 Euro as I recall) but that didn't seem to matter. As a Platinum, I was given a choice of amenity (chose the red wine, of course). Happened to mention that I needed to be at the airport early in the morning to catch a flight and would have to depart before the breakfast room opened. "No problem", they said, "We'll have room service deliver it at no charge." And they did. Your mileage may vary, of course, but I was certainly impressed, and would be very inclined to return if I have an overnight in the area again. |
Recent stays?
I am booked to go there in September. Any recent stays? Comments?
Anything to do around the property? I am attending a meeting at the University nearby, so I plan to stay in the area. Thanks |

I stayed there in late August. Nice, bright rooms. Very quiet on the weekend we were there.
Located about equidistant between downtown and the airport. The only negative was the concierge who sent us to to a HUGE tourist trap for dinner -- probably our worst experience in Portugal. |
I had a recent stay there. Enjoyed the hotel. Rooms were nice, just nice not great. Small bath/shower.
Lounge was a bit spartan: usual breakfast, usual munchies, usual drinks. No view, despite being on the top floor. Location was great for me since I attended a meeting across the road. Area is safe. I took the metro to the more scenic downtown area. Lots to see there, a great place to visit! Next time I might stay closer to downtown. |
I got this for maybe ~USD 70 via Priceline last autumn - very nice for the money - good location (not the best, but still quite good) and very clean.

I stayed here Monday to Friday for about 5 months in 2002, nice hotel, very nice suites. Great city if you like fish.
Be wary of the taxi-drivers, a lot of them try to charge twice the rate. It should only cost around 10 euros to the hotel from the airport, and the same from the hotel to the city centre. If you get the chance, try visit the Kais restaurant. Its located in the city centre near the docks at Cais da Viscondessa, Rua da Cintura-Santos. |
Marriott Lisbon...
Stayed here in July of this year ('04) during the EuroCup.
Personally, thought the hotel was very good/clean. Room was nice, can't remember but it was like 2 floors below the Conceirge Lounge. The Lounge was great I thought - always had some good beverages / etc. there. The hotel had a bar/lounge downstairs that was cool, and the restaurant also had a great bar / area. The pool was just so-so. Oh, and I thought the service was great. Overall, i would not consider it a real 'vacation' type hotel, but it is pretty good if you are looking for a hotel to stay for a few nights while you see some sights of Lisbon. |
How far is the hotel from the Metro? Also, about how long does the Metro take to get downtown?

I stayed there with my 15 year old daughter this past June. The European World Cup Soccer Championships were underway with Lisbon as host city and the Russian Team was staying at the hotel so there was tremendous security in place. The rooms and hotel were okay... Typical Marriott. The breakfast buffet was standard, but did include some great cured Spanish Jamon and local Portugese cheeses. I did enjoy smoking a cigar and having a drink at the pool as the Russian team members had some interesting looking fellow travelers accompanying them. Being the dutiful Dad, of course I ignored them! From Lisbon we went on to Tangiers, and the pool view at the hotel there was substantially less "skinful!"
From the Marriott, as I recall, we did take a short, scenic 15 minute walk over the Freeway a couple times, down through a residential area to the Jardim Zoológico Blue Line Underground Station. It would have been easy to take a cab, but the walk was pleasant and healthier. We rode the Blue line a couple stops one day to a large shopping center to buy some Soccer World Cup paraphenalia. We also rode it in the other direction to downtown. The Metropolitano de Lisboa subway system was clean, clearly marked and easy to navigate. |
Thanks, just what I was hoping to hear :)
