Nope.
Let's give an example... 2012 -- 175 nights (stay + credit card, no rollover) = Platinum for 2013 and 100 rollover nights 2013 -- 60 nights + 100 rollover = Gold for 2014 + 10 rollover nights (? later I am not quite sure but I think that is the case) 2014 -- Gold + 10 rollover nights already towards Platinum for 2015. |

if you have 60 nights in 2013 + 100 rollover nights from 2012, wouldn't you qualify for plat in 2014, or am I missing something??
So you would only have 60 qualifying nights for 2014. You would be Gold. |

I'll buy into the rollover nights don't rollover again, but in 2013 since you start with the 100 rollover nights from 2012, you've qualified for plat from day 1 (01 Jan) so if you now log in 60-pd nights in 2013, why don't these pd nights rollover into 2014 (presuming the program is continued)?

I misstated perhaps.

At absolute minimum, if nothing ever goes wrong, I would have to stay 30 nights per year for work.

like the conversation here.:p
the rollover always seems confusing. |

If I roll 100 nights over into 2013, I have made platinum for 2013. All additional days I stay in 2013 end up rolling into my status for 2014. So since I'm platinum now, all of the rest of the days I stay in 2012 go towards my status in 2013. If I roll over 45 days into 2013, I only have to stay 30 days in 2013 before I start banking roll over days for 2014. |

That doesn't make any sense to me. You are basically saying that rollover nights don't do anything. That is not my understanding of the program at all. Can you please point me to your source as I am very interested. Thanks!
Basically, rollover nights are not considered "earned" nights. They do count to help you maintain status the following year. They do count again for lifetime nights. They do not roll over a second year. Only "earned" nights above your current status rollover. So for example, if you are Plat this year, only "earned" nights above 75 will rollover to next year. You must "earn" more than 75 nights next year to get any rollover nights for the following year. If you "earn" 150 or over nights this year, your Plat status is intact until Feb 2015 even if you have no nights next year. However, if you do not "earn" at least 75 nights in 2013 or 2014, you will not have any rollover nights and your status should drop on March 2015 to Gold (MR does soft landings) until Feb 2016. To add to the frustration, IF you drop to Gold and then do 51 - 74 nights, you can get up to 24 rollover nights. Should you make 75 nights, then you get zero rollover nights! I hope this helps. I think the previous posts pretty much say the same thing with less words. Next year it could be totally different, if at all, depending upon what MR chooses to do (to us). Unfortunately Marriott Concierge is not spending much time on FT to help us get official answers to MR program questions (and when rollover nights first came out even they were wrong on how it worked). They did step up and corrected those accounts when we requested. |

Your explanation matches my understanding as well. But, being a LT Plat, I will admit that I haven't followed roll-over night rules and such nearly has closely as I have other aspects of Marriott's program.

the rollover always seems confusing. But I'm cutting/pasting RogerD408's explanation. I'm moderating a Marriott roundtable at the Chicago Seminar event in October. I'm pretty much up on Marriott stuff, but the roll-over confuses me. I'll use Roger's explanation as my "Cliff Notes" :) Cheers. |

No kidding! I thank my lucky stars for being Lifetime Platinum & not having to worry about it anymore.

Cliff :) |
Will note that, and then if they extend it or change it will look for your cliff notes version in the future :)
Cheers. |

Also, don't forget about MR's soft landings. So missing Plat will only drop you to Gold. There are many posts where people are not seeing a big difference between Plat and Gold (bonus points aside).
This is my third year with MR. My first year I had 48 nights. So, I was only Silver but had 38 rollover nights (48-10). So in my second year it only took me 37 nights to get platinum. This didn't happen, but hypothetically if I only had 49 nights again for this year, I could repeat the cycle and get platinum next year with only 36 nights. My only concern was that I'd have to be Silver until getting back up to Gold (which if my math is correct still would only be 11 nights: 49-10=39 39+11=50). However with the soft landing you'd never be less than Gold, correct? Edit: assuming the rollover rules stay the same of course |

Rollover + earned = used to figure next year's status earned = used to figure next year's rollover. Back to OP - we're debating over 60, 85, 100, 125 nights a year. I've earned SPG PLT for 9 consecutive years with 25-30 nights in 7 of those years - a total of about 320 nights. How could MR be the easiest to keep year over year? |
