cancellation policies
Hi, I made a reservation directly with the hotel. I didn't note any specific cancellation policies during our phone conversations, so I was under the impression that the same day 6PM guarantee applied. I have had to cancel and am calling 24 hrs. in advance. Customer service says it is up to the hotel. Any experiences? I don't know what I should do at this point. I have my notes from my reservation conversation and definitely would have noted a policy that was more than that standard 6PM checkin.
please advise. |

If you have your confirmation number, go to the Marriott website and confirm your reservation online with that number and your last name. It should bring up a page telling you the details of your reservation including the cancellation policy for that location.

I thought ONLY reservations made on Marriotts WEBSITE, could be retrieved online.

TUFBEAR, I don't think you can MODIFY a reservation on the website unless it was made via the web. SimonC is correct. You should be able to retrieve and view a reservation though. I have made reservations using the Entertainment rate by calling the hotel directly(can't be done on-line). Once I have the confirmation number I review the reservation on the website to make sure the rate is what I was quoted over the phone. Go to https://www.marriott.com/reservation...eservation.asp
I think cancellation prior to 6pm day of arrival is standard unless the property is a resort or it is a special rate with a more restrictive cancellation policy. When I made my reservation at the Vail Marriott in January, the cancellation policy was something like 30 days. |

I should also clarify that the reservation was made directly with the hotel. I did not receive nor request a confirmation, just had my notes with the confirmation # and other notes regarding our conversation. If that makes any difference.

The correct answer is that you *can* see any reservation where you have your last name and confirmation number.
The page cited by Anna has a big OR in the middle. If you try lookup using your user name and password you only see reservations made online. But if you use the OR option (last name and confirmation number) you can see any reservation. |

I've had luck canceling reservations in the Orlando area that had a 3 day policy. I second everyone elses's opinion... Call the hotel.

Can't do anything about it now, but for the future ... Even if you make a phone reservation, always ask for an e-mail confirmation. That way you have written documentation and don't have to get into a "he said," "she said" discussion.
By way of example, my parents booked the Rancho Las Palmas in Rancho Mirage, CA, but the agent put them in the Desert Springs in Palm Desert. Without documentation, it would have been difficult to decide who was correct. |
