yes I know - former gold = silver in the new program.

I already experienced an advantage: I showed my (old Marquis) Gold card at check-in and the agent noticed 'ah you are Gold, you would get an upgrade, but unfortunately we are fully booked, and in add the lounge is closed on weekends' (SNA airport Marriott).

I hear the same thing everytime I check in. The hotel is full and the Concierge level is full and the lounge is closed on weekends! Since it is said the same way in all the Marriotts, it has to be in the Manual on WHAT TO SAY TO A LOYAL GUEST!
I know when a hotel is full. SO IS THE LOBBY! The LAX property was empty and the desk told me those same lies. The Lounge was EMPTY also! This is especially true of the Corporate owned marriotts.

I gotta admit, when I checked into the GSPAP Marriott a couple of days ago, there were *twelve* people at the whole hotel, and I was not on the concierge level! And I'm a Platinum, marked as VIP on my key folder.

That kinda pisses me off, since even if the concierge lounge is closed, the level's rooms gets bottles of water, robes, and a few other small things. Oh well.

As a black member, I have heard the same BS at the following properties, SNA, CLT, CLT South Park, Burlington MA, ATL North.

What I do not understand is who they are holding the club rooms for if they are not actually sold out?

Just called this week regarding my status and how they counted nights and was told that the timeframe was from April 99 through April 2000. Then I had her research my '00 YTD stays (53), then had her look at my '99 stays in the period April '99 through December '99 (another 40+ nights). The customer rep then put me on hold for a couple of minutes, came back on and profusely apologised, saying she didn't know how the total stays didn't prpoerly get credited and that she had immediately bumped me up from Gold to Plat and that new status items will be shipped out immediately. So if you've got a question, get your info ready and give them a call, they will check into it.
