Dallas Marriott Quorum

Our team will be staying at this property all next week (7 nights - playing in Dallas Cup XXI!). Any suggestions on room selection, upgrade possibilities, amenities, etc., as well as points, would be appreciated.
I am not an active member of the Rewards (HHonors Gold, Delta GM), but would join/re-activate if it makes sense. Does it? What will 7 nights at a discounted rate get me?

Depends on how often you travel and your ability to stay in the future:

If you don't travel much and/or not at Marriott, I would join and earn miles. You earn 3 miles per dollar. So, assuming you spend 7 nights at $100 you would earn 2,100 miles. Plus, you'd earn miles for $ spent on breakfast, phone calls, etc.

Marriott is running a double points promotion with Visa, but it only starts on your second stay. So, you would probably want to make a 1-night stay somewhere first. You would then earn 14,000 points for your stay. To earn double points, you have to register at 800/442-9929 or their website.

Thanks for the info, Hawkeye! I just enrolled, and picked DL miles.
So, for a $700 bill, I should get > 2K miles?
Not bad!
BTW, any problems posting the miles in the past? How long does it take? Do I _have_ to give my number at the check in?

I'm not sure about the miles because I choose to earn points. Just be sure to give your Marriott Rewards number when making the reservation(or at the front desk) and you shouldn't have any problems. It can't hurt to check at the front desk, but I haven't had problems with points posting.

I think you'll enjoy this property. I spent two weeks there 15 months ago and I understand that they are now remodelled and ready to roll. Enjoy. If you're up for a movie, there is a great Tinseltown theater out that way by the by.

If you're hungry, there's something like 200 restaurants within 2 miles of the hotel. It's one of my favorites in Dallas. Hope they are through with the remodel -- what a mess the last time I was there.

Sorry, but the Westin Park Central is the best deal going. For a cheaper rate than the Marriott Quorum you get a far better room in a far nicer hotel. Nothing against the Marriott Quorum, you won't be disappointed, but the Westin is the best kept secret in Dallas.

MileKing - Westin is what I wanted, but it happened be the HQ hotel for the tourney, and fully booked. Hilton wasn't even available, and the tournament organizers make you stay at one of the hotels, Marriott was the best we had to choose from - which appears to be not bad.
Thanx for everyone's input. We'll check out as many restaurants as we can (b/w playing my favorite game. Go Eagles!)

Westin Park Central??? OUCH! The rooms are really nice, and the location isn't bad, but they have the worst (and I mean THE WORST) front desk and accounting staff in the business. We had our annual conference there in February and I'm still trying to straighten out the bill. Stay there only if someone else is worrying about the financial side of it or you'll raise your blood pressure trying to sort it all out. That's a shame, too, because it's well maintained and relatively near both airports.

Our week-long stay was great. Check-in at half past midnight was quick. My team (fourteen 12-yrs-old boys) loved the hotel! Nice pool, accomodating staff, nice lobby. All in all, a good experience.
Thanx to everyone for advice.
