This rule has always been a little hard for me to fathom.

I, for one, could guarantee Bill Marriott that I'd arrange far more customer lunches (not to mention breakfasts and dinners) in his hotel restaurants if I could get some points out of the deal.

By the way, I personally thought the restaurant was poorly staffed and the food mediocre at best. Only redeeming quality was the view. Frankly, I haven't heard anyone with a much better experience.

(The View used to offer a hors d'oeurves and dessert menu for about $25...not sure if they still have that offering. Might have better luck with that than the dinner.)

I ate there 2 yrs ago when they first opened on xmas eve and got a great deal. Every other place was $75-100 price fixe menu, they were $45/person which was reasonable considering it was a holiday. The food I remember was very good and the sorbet dessert was outstanding. It was 6 little sorbet or ice cream cones each with a different flavor.

I'm sure the prices have gone up since then.

Ditto here.

Makes absolutely no sense to me, they lose revenue from this policy.

Here's a link to The View prices/menus if you do decide to give it a shot:

Prix-fixe is $69.95 for dinner.

Does eating at the restaurants earn you pts?

If I eat at a Ritz Carlton restaurant and not a guest do I earn pts?

What about doing the same at a Marriott?

With SPG I know you can, not sure about Marriott

Marriott Rewards for dining

Add
  1. Points for Restaurant after stay?
  2. bonus points for restaurant dining
  3. Parking fees, dining count towards points?
and a bunch about dining certificates both as earning and redeeming MR pts.

At Marriott, you can only earn at the restaurants if you are a guest.

At Ritz, you don't earn at the restaurants. You only earn on the room.
