Status for next year

Hi. New to forum, currently platinum (expires Feb 2012) but wondering what my likely status will be next year? Can I guarantee a 'soft landing' to gold, or should I make that extra night (tonight).
Nights Stayed: 31
Bonus Nights Earned: 18
Promotional: 0
Marriott Rewards Credit Card: 10
Rewarding Events: 0
Rollover Nights: 8
Total Nights Earned this Year: 49
Total Membership Nights: 132
Against my account it says:
0 Nights Needed to Achieve Next Level
26 Nights Needed to Renew Level
Thanks.

I wouldn't stay another night as you will only fall back to gold next year anyway and should have 39 rollover nights going into 2012. If you don't already have the Chase Premier card get it and you will get an extra 15 nights pushing you to 54 nights and on your way back to Platinum.

Thanks AA Novice. So you're saying that I'll most likely be given gold status and 39 points to carry over, whereas if I stayed the extra night I'd qualify for gold but have 0 nights carried over? Or would I have 40 night carried over?

Applied for the new credit card in UK so that gets me additional 10 - if I get to carry those days over should hopefully regain platinum next year.

At worst Marriott will only drop you to Gold (they have been known to look at your last 3 years or so of stays and let you keep Plat based on that.)

You won't get any roll-over nights as you would not have any nights over the 50 needed for Gold.

The way I'm reading OP's nights is that only 21 nights will rollover (31 - 10 (silver tier)) instead of 49 - 10. I agree OP will still be at gold.

Since I'm a LT Plat, I admit that I haven't really scrutinized all the roll-over ins and outs. But, I thought that if the OP drops to Gold, only the nights over the Gold level (i.e. nights over 50) would be rolled over.

I don't want to start new topic so I'm gonna ask here.
I just saw message when I logged in to my account and it says:

Membership Level:
Platinum (7 Elite nights)
Congratulations, you have renewed at Platinum Elite status for 2011.

I've shifted my stays this year to Hilton hence only 7 nights at MR (long story). But why does it say Congratulations and 2011? Never seen that before. They are saying 'congratulations and goodbye'? Just wondering what does it mean :)

That's a very good point. I re-read the original post and I am now thinking that, since OP is currently a Plat, there will be 0 nights rolled over, but will drop to Gold for the new year.

This may not be the case necessarily, but I also saw a message like that for one day about a month ago, and when I called MR yesterday (to initially ask about doing the Gold Challenge since I was slated to lose Gold status with only thirty-something nights), the rep told me that I will be Gold (i.e., maintain my status) through Jan2013. He told me that corporate reviews usage and also looks sometimes at the past 3 years and grants status based on that sometimes (even when you don't necessarily reach that status). So, it may or may not be that, but it's probably worth a call to MR to check!

I've never hit 75 nights in a year but consistently stay about 15-18 nights a quarter. MR put me at Platinum about 3 years ago and have kept me there ever since. Not sure why but I'll take it. This year I'm at an all time high of 71 nights and I'll be shocked if they drop me below Platinum. With the economy still not chugging along, I'm not sure they're dropping anyone.

I'm a Plat who shifted to Starwood in fall 2010. I didn't really requal Plat in 2010 and I didn't come close in 2011, only reaching 40 total EQN including the credit card nights.

So I'm expecting to drop to Gold. I'm wondering if I'll have zero rollover nights or 30 rollover nights. If the answer is zero, then in a weird sort of way I'd almost rather get dumped all the way back to Silver and have the 30 rollover nights, knowing that I can just slog through 5 actual room-nights as a Silver and then qualify for Gold through Feb 2014.

I believe the rollover based on status of the this year (PLAT for you) and therefore, no rollover nights. I really don't know if you will drop to Silver but please let us know next year.
