Hello, new to this forum, but I came across this topic in a google search, and was wondering if anyone could help me out. I am (was) currently Gold Elite with Marriott. I had 47 nights as of 12/29/11 and completed 3 stays before the end of 2011. (12/29, 12/30, 12/31). Strange thing happened mid stay. My status dropped from Gold to Silver randomly on the evening of the 30th. NOT the 31st. And it still says 47 nights this year, so it doesnt appear that the count reset at year end. It just seems to have randomly demoted me. I understand that those last 3 nights probably havent gone through the MR system yet, but I technically have 50 night in 2011, so will I still be gold for 2012? I have 2 stays coming up this week, and I want/need to gold perks on these nights. I am going to call them and figure it out, but figured I might get some insight as to why I was dropped BEFORE the end of the year, even though I made 50 nights by 1/1/12. Any advice would be great! Thanks in advance!

First, welcome to FT.

Second, I would double check my status again. Marriott status is good through the end of Feb. So if you didn't get the needed nights in this year, you should still be Gold for the next 2 months. Marriott probably does this for reasons just like yours (to give those last few stays time to post.) But Marriott has a tendency to "play" with their status requirements/system around the end of the year and quite often people will see their status bumped up/down/all around for a day or so until they get everything fixed up. So hopefully, if you check again, your status should be back to Gold.

Third, if for some reason you still see your status as Silver, I would give MR a call and ask them why your status dropped as that isn't the norm for status levels. Did you by chance receive your status through a challenge (and didn't meet the challenge requirements so they dropped you back?) or something similar? But in any case, the MR CSRs should be able to help you. It might be worth waiting a couple of days for your last few stays to post before you call though as then they will be able to easily see that you did get 50 nights in 2011 and should be able to bump you up to Gold manually, if the system didn't do it automatically.

I will use this thread since it is related. When will the EQN counter be reset? I checked my account today. It shows the same number of EQN as before new year.

Just a guess, but Marriott may be waiting a week or so to allow for all nights/stays in 2011 to post before they close it off and zero all the yearly counts.

Marriott was kind to me for 2012

I just got a letter telling me I can still be Plat for 2012. I only had 52 stay credits in 2011, and in 2010 I only just barely made Plat. Almost all of my credits were from my Chase card, and a week from my Marriott time share. Wonder if they want to keep their time share folks happy? Thanks, Marriott!:)

There is some logic to Marriott's keeping you at Plat. Given there isn't a large difference in Plat and Gold benefits, Marriott doesn't incur much more "expense" by giving you Plat status. You would get CL access and room upgrades anyway. And by keeping you at the Plat level, you will hopefully have a more favorable view of Marriott. Thus keeping or moving more stays with them.

I would like to follow up on my question. Yesterday I've decided to go thru may junk mail which I've been neglecting since late December.
To my big surprise I saw big silver envelope saying Platinum Elite 2012 Benefits. When I opened it, there was a Plat card with a letter and Plat Member Handbook :)
After staying only 7 paid nights in 2011 at MR properties "they" are happy to extend my status for another year :D
I guess somebody saw how much business they've lost. From 175 nights a year to 7 its a pretty big jump.

Also in my mail was another envelope from Hilton.
I've got Silver status from Hilton after staying 9 nights with them (started Hilton in October of last year).

I've got two freebies :) Now if only US would push me up one level up to be CP for another year ;)

there are several threads on Marriott's 3-year averaging to maintain status
