Off topic but reminds me a couple months ago we stayed at the Royal Hawaiian. A couple women came down in the white hotel robes for breakfast. I am talking beach front restaurant not the CL. It struck us as a bit odd. :)

They must be the same women OU812 is talking about ;)

I usually take few bottles of water to the room every night. If they are 10oz ones I take 4-6 of them. I drink 2-3 over night and 2 in the morning. I also carry a shaker for my Advocare (https://www.advocare.com/141042751/default.aspx) Spark, and Meal Replacement Shakes so I use water for it.

When I travel with my wife and toddler I wake up earlier than girls do so I go, grab a plate and put some eggs, meats, and bread on it, and small plate of fruits (slightly more than what one person would normally eat in the lounge) and bring it to the room for my wife and kid.

Neither taking water to my room, nor a plate of food I find particularly unusual or feel bad about it. They could both go with me to the lounge but it is easier for me to just bring it to the room. No lounge attendant ever said a thing about either.

Might be a little off topic, but this happened the other night in a CL, and it was pretty funny.

CNN was showing on the TV when the Breaking News intro came on and Wolf Blitzer said, "This just in to CNN..." He was breaking the news about Harrison Ford's plane accident. An older couple was sitting at a table nearby and the gentleman was talking a little loud, perhaps so his wife could hear. He said, "Oh, what a shame. And he had that terrible head injury a few years ago, too." She said, "That was a movie!" He insisted it wasn't, and they debated back and forth until someone pulled something up on a tablet and showed him information about Regarding Henry.

Yeah, well some people just have NO self-control: :D

Annoying, yet hilarious, moment in the London Kensington CL last evening...a group of elderly Americans arrived with laptop in tow. The evening before, one of the men was streaming the Red Sox/Blue Jays game on his laptop. He had the sound up pretty high and was of course, very vocal about his unhappiness with the calls against the Red Sox.

So Mr jtwiz and I figure we are in for another baseball game - but no! It was in fact the Mother's Day skype session  They proceeded to make all of their skype calls, at the top of their lungs, from the CL. Yup, we heard it all. Where they went, what they ate (and better yet, what disagreed with them after they ate it), the weather, etc. It was truly so annoying that it became hilarious. The poor lady right next to them not only got to hear it all, but the laptop faced her - so she got to see it all too!

In the midst of this, they were sending the poor CL attendent up to the bar to get them iced teas (which had to be made from scratch and had to be in real glasses - they sent back the paper cups!)

You really cannot make this stuff up...

As I've mentioned elsewhere, there is a special place in hell for public Skypers, especially those who don't use headphones.

Should the lounge attendant, well... tend to this problem? Perhaps pointing out politely that they're being disruptive or suggesting headphones?

Off topic, but reminds me of my semester studying in London during college in the 1980's. Within a couple months we could see and HEAR the Americans a mile away. Was always horribly embarrassing to have a group of loud Americans on the tube. We would slink away and try to NOT engage them in conversation. That's when we learned about the term "ugly Americans."

Sadly, the attendant was far too busy chasing down iced teas for them

If they speak loudly enough to involve me, then clearly it's their intent that I participate in the conversation.

Personally, I find Asian tourists in America to be far worse than any American tourists I have seen in other countries, but I know exactly what you mean. It would be nice if tourists of all types could be nice and polite and at least make an effort to learn the cultural norms of the places they visit. Too many times they are just plain rude.

In the original usage (book/movie), the ugly American was the good guy, the one who did the right things.

Agreed. I would have complained to the lounge attendant and if no action taken further to management.
I have found many of them to be thankful in such situations being able to say 'other guests are complaining, can you please XXXX' I don't mind getting the stinky eye in such cases from the offenders ;)
