Yes, depending on the person you get when you call, Marriott can sometimes be quite liberal about some things! (And if you do not get a flexible rep, then hang up and call again!)

That was my point.

The OP went to a lot of trouble & effort to avoid spending $12.50, when in less than a minute online he could have taken care of it. Obviously we all value our time & $$ differently.

Not to mention he 'lucked out' w/ getting someone to bend the rules. Given he hasn't stayed in a Marriott in 3 years I'm surprised they did. Definitely lucky.

I just tried to get a similar bending of the rules & 2 reps both said NO.

I'm surprised the OP's rep didn't just let him go negative for 566 points, which s/he can earn by spending a mere US$47.20 @ 12 pp$ as Silver at the resort!
