Maximize Earnings - Purchasing Bed

Okay, so I'm finally upgrading my bed at home and will be purchasing the Renaissance bed for my bedroom. I figure I sleep on it more nights in hotels than at home that might as well make home match for consistency.

Now, is there a way to maximize the earnings on this? I don't have a MR CC (forced to use corp amex for everything so never bothered). Can I purchase gift cards (get points?), use gift cards and get points?

Basically, I'm gonna spend the money for the mattress / box spring, it'd be nice if I could get some sort of MR points for the large purchase as well...Any insight / advice would be appreciated.

Oh and I have the "SHOP20" discount code to take 20% of anything at the "ShopMarriott.com" website already. But that's the best deal I know of at the moment.

Well have you considered getting the Marriott Visa? You do presumably use cc's for other items besides travel (or if not, you should - this is FT after all!). You'll get the free Cat 1-4 cert each year, plus points whenever used, and it would help max the earnings for the purchase.

I'll let others weigh in on the gift card option, as I've never purchased or used one.

Cheers.

Hey

Which one is the "Renaissance" bed?

To others past buyers, any recommendations/advices?

Well, they have THIS one listed at collectrenaissance.com; however it's an innerspring mattress. My concierge at the Ren last Friday confirmed for me that the concierge level rooms DO NOT Have springs.

Therefore I think it's THIS one at shopmarriott.com. She said it was a Sealy foam mattress with the following attributes (64% polyeurothane and 26% polystyrene - apologies for spelling).

At $1600, I'd like to bank some points. I do use the Delta AmEx for most purchases but if you use it on Delta.com you get double miles for the purchase (in addition to credit for miles flown). If I were to get the Marriott CC, would I get bonus points for purchases at shopmarriott.com? If not, I'd go ahead and get the DL miles with my AmEx. If so, then I might apply.

Finally, another Point/Miles miser!

From www.chase.com/marriott:

Thank you for being a Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Signature cardmember. We hope that you continue to enjoy earning 5 points for every $1 on all of your Marriott spend, 2 points for every $1 on airline, rental car, and dining purchases, and 1 point for every $1 on your everyday purchases. Every time you use your Marriott Rewards Visa card, you are one step closer to your dream vacation with Marriott. For complete rewards, please see MarriottRewards.com.

I suppose you'll need to phone Marriott Rewards to see if ShopMarriott.com qualifies as "Marriott" for MR PV purchases.

Fabulous info, I'll call the CS line now and see if the website counts as MR spend for the 5 points per dollar! That would be a cool 8K points - a free Cat 1 night!

Beware. The Marriott bed is not a long lasting bed. It's made for a few year's of usage then thrown out. Its made by Jamison and can be purchased at Jamison bedding retailers.

I went to buy the Marriott bed. But found that it's a foam rubber mattress ... not a Memory foam and not a laytex foam. Do you research.

You might want to look into the Marriott Honeymoon Gift Card promo offer.

You get 20 pts/$ with the promo + 5pts/$ if you pay with the Premier credit card + $100 bonus credit for each $1000 you put on the card.

You can probably also use the 20% off discount coupon as well!
