Which Marriotts Do You Like/Hate?

List your "Go" "Maybe" and "No Go" Marriott and Marriott family hotels.

Go:
Renaissance Times Square
New York Marriott Marquis
Marriott RiverCenter (TX)
JW Marriott Las Vegas
Westchester Marriott
LAX Marriott
Residence Inn Savannah Georgia
Courtyard Chicago Magnificent Mile
Courtyard Norfolk
Residence Inn Akron
Residence Inn Madison West
Residence Inn Schaumburg
TownePlace Suites Minneapolis Downtown
Marriott Long Wharf
Courtyard Alexandria
Courtyard Blacksburg

Maybe:
SpringHill Suites Williamsburg
Fairfield Inn Springfield (IL)
Courtyard Maumee

Don't Go:
Haven't experienced a bad Marriott - yet...

MacDaddie Feb 28, 2010 6:10 pm

Go

Courtyard Regensburg
Moscow Aurora
Moscow Grand
Moscow Courtyard
Samara Renaissance
St Petersburg Renaissance
Warsaw Marriott (though I like the Hilton there better)
Heathrow Marriott
DFW Marriott (the one north of the airport if there is more than one)

OK
Brussels Renaissance (best gym in Brussels hotel if that is important to you)
Brussels Marriott
Hamburg Marriott (I've never gotten very good service there, great city)
Courtyard Flora Prague
Phuket JW
Phuket Beach club
Bangkok executive apts (the one with the pool at the top)

Can miss
Brussels Courtyard - breakfast buffet $22 euros says it all, mediocre service
All courtyards that charge Platinum members for breakfast. Stay at the HGI down the street!!!!
Frankfurt Courtyard - terrible service and only one elevator for a lot of floors!!
Other Phuket - Khao Lak or something like that vacation club - worse service and its just an apartment complex with a mediocre pool.
Courtyard Istanbul airport - NOT at the airport. Poor service.

Love

Rive Guache - Paris
Marriott Village - Orlando (all of the hotels have "upgraded" me as an elite)
Marriott Birmingham. After a year there they all knew exactly what I wanted :)

OK.
Courtyard Foothill Ranch. (it's next door to the office, no other real redeeming points)
Marriott Resort - Hilton Head. Generally get a nice upgrade, but it's just an older hotel

REALLY DISLIKE
Marriott Vacation Club- Harbour Club in Sea Pines. WHAT A DUMP, horrid service and overall just very overpriced and hyped.
Courtyard CDG which I think is now the Marriott. Any "airport" hotel that doesn't have a free shuttle should be ashamed of themselves.

Go
Marco Island Marriott!!

CALMSP Feb 28, 2010 6:47 pm

The Marriott Renaissance at London - Heathrow is a great spot for plane spotting if you are an avid plane watcher!!

GOOD:
- Renaissance London Heathrow
- Renaissance Dubai
- Renaissance Kowloon Hong Kong
- Renaissance Dubai Deira
- JW Mexico City
- Marriott Park City Summit Watch
- Marriott Chicago Magnificent Mile (great courtesty from the GM, I had to wait until 4pm on my check-in day to get my room. I sent a letter b/c the check-in agent said they called me at 2:30pm to offer a room, but no one called because they had some odd phone number in my record which wasn't mine. GM offered bonus points and a upgrade for my next stay and responded to my letter w/in 24 hours.)

No Good:
- Marriott IAH :p

Off the top of my head, and by no means a complete list (and just from the last year or two).....

Likes....

Iowa City Marriott
Birmingham (AL-USA) Marriott
Indianapolis Marriott North
Milwaukee West Marriott
London Grosvenor Square Marriott
Westwood Village Marriott
Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle
Gravenhurst, ON Residence Inn
Madison, WI RI
Overland Park Convention Center CY
Montreal Airport CY
Paso Robles CY
Maple Grove, MN CY
Ottawa CY
Austin Northwest SHS (MoPac Expwy)
Guelph, ON, Fairfield Inn
Beaverton, OR FI
Burlington, WA FI
Gulf Shores, AL FI

Don't like.....

Overall, no real stinkers this year. I had issues at a few properties, but no "deal brakers' and not enough for me to give any property overall thumbs down....

Examples.....

Erie, PA CY (indifferent unresponsive attitude regarding item left behind in room.)
Austin South SHS (no compensation....or apology...for lack of hot water)
Lake Buena Vista CY at Marriott Village (staff seemed unprepared for peak occupancy week)
Atlanta Perimiter Marriott (noise from live entertainment in lounge)

blenz Feb 28, 2010 7:13 pm

And Seattle (Seatac airport) Marriott

Marriott - Iowa City, IA
Marriott Waterfront - Seattle, WA
Marriott City Center - Minneapolis, MN
Courtyard Country Club Plaza - Kansas City, MO ^^^
Courtyard Old Market District - Omaha, NE

Proceed with caution:
- Most of the aging Courtyards sprinkled about the country

Run don't walk away from:
- Courtyard at Old Town - Wichita, KS - HORRIBLE franchisee. Worst Marriott property in the system.

Interesting...I feel differently about this hotel - the rooms definitely weren't large, but that hotel can only work with the existing structure of the building. I thought that the hotel had a spectacular location in Rome & thought the history was pretty cool!

Similar to how the Ren in AMS has small rooms, but the Marriott there is much larger - they can only work with what they've got.

Nice:

CY JAX south (behind the hospital)

Horrible:

CY Brandywine, Wilmington, DE (never, under any circumstances!)

BTW, how do you guys remember all that? I can't recall where I went 2 weeks ago.

No one's mentioned the Marriott Marble Arch in London, which was very pleasant. I stayed there for a meeting and was surprised at how convenient the location was.

My complete review is online here.
