E E O Certificate Question
Has anyone ever tried to use the EEO (free weekend night) certificate more than once?
I read and re-read the rules, and there does not seem to be any prohibition against making numerous copies of the certificate and using it at different Renaissance or Marriott hotels between March 5th and June 6th, 2010. Newman |
The website says it can be used once per member, not sure how they track this though.
|
I've not only used them more than once per quarter, but have used them on consecutive weekends at the same hotel. And have had no problems at all.
|
I have used the EEO's on several weekends during an available period, no problems, just printed out a copy whenever I needed it.
Alas, living in the UK, Marriott has decided in its wisdom not to make the current EEO's redeemable outside the US :td: |
Can you just show up @ the hotel with the certificate or do you have to call Marriott to make the reservation as it says on the certificate?
|
I've always called MR to setup my reservation. I do believe that while an EEO is usuable with most publicly available rates, the hotel can have black-out dates and can maybe limit the number used. So it would be a very good idea to call and make sure the EEO is usable for the date you want and the reservation reflects using the EEO.

and once, i was in a hotel in tampa on a thurs-sat...decided to stay an extra night....the associate said, if you print another certificate you can just stay the extra night...SO..i used 2 over 1 weekend on a Thursday-Monday stay....^ I sometimes call the ressie line...but more often than not I write in the remarks that i have the EEO. Then when i call, the agent says...'oh it was already noted".... IMHO if they didn't want/know that people would use them more than once, they should have stuck to the mailed copies.... |

A month or so ago I called the Plat. desk to ask for clarification. I was told that you can use them more than once as long as you only use one per weekend at the same hotel ( for instance, we were with another couple and asked if we could gift them a certificate and were told only one member certificate per weekend at the same property).

I've had problems at one hotel (Blackstone in Chicago) because I made the reservation on-line as opposed to by phone, so make sure you do it by phone before arrival.

Think on this, when you print out an EEO, is your MR# anywhere on it? I don't see it on mine. And given you can "gift" these to friends, I could print out 10 of these and give them to 10 friends all staying at the same hotel on the same weekend. The hotel would have no way to know, unless we told them, that every coupon came from my account. I can see a hotel limiting the total number of coupons used per weekend (by anyone), but their ability to limit how many came from my printer is a little more hazy. |

Interesting. I have used multiple EEOs exactly as you were told couldn't be done. We were staying with some friends and I made two copies of the cert and used one for each room over the same weekend.

Interesting. Our's print out with name and MR number on them.
I'm looking at Platinum Offers=>Marriott & JW Marriott Hotels: Treat Yourself to A Weekend Escape and A Free Second Night. There is no "certificate" per se, Step 3 in Taking Advantage of this offer, says to just print out this page. There is no listing of my account or MR# anywhere on that page. |

No. this is an actual BOGO. log onto MR and click PLAT OFFERS and you will see it there.
Is this deal only for normal rates (i.e. wedding rates wouldn't count?). I'm assuming BOGO means Buy One Get One. |

Sorry. New here. I can't find this anywhere. I am platinum, so it should be available. All the offers I see are for specific properties.

Yes, BOGO means Buy 1, Get 1.
If you are a Plat, then you should be able to access Marriott & JW Marriott Hotels: Treat Yourself to A Weekend Escape and A Free Second Night to see the details of the offer. |

OK So found something - is this just for Marriotts and JW Marriotts?

There is also one for Rens: Renaissance Hotels: Make More of Your Weekend Getaway With A Free Second Night.
Really could use one for courtyards. Oh well... |

Maybe I have completely misunderstood what this discussion concerns. What are you printing out?

In the past, my name and account # were embedded and did appear when I printed out the cert. I just tried it now and only my first name appears on the cert, in letters small enough that I am sure it would go unnoticed.
And I just printed out a coupon and I don't see any personal data on any of the pages. |

Definitely interesting. I don't remember ever seeing my account info on the printout. (Doesn't necessarily mean it wasn't ever there. I have missed a few things over the years. ;) )

We always take two with us. One to give to the front desk at check-in and the second to give to the front desk when we check out since, in all of the times we have used them, we have NEVER had a correct bill reflecting the free night.

EE0 offer - unavailable?
Just tried to have an EEO applied to two reservations - one in Atlanta in March on a LNF rate and another in Chicago in April on a leisure rate (although I know there is a convention in the hotel that weekend) but the Platinum agent was unable to do so on either reservation. I've never had a problem in the past. Are these being severely limited? Curious that neither of them would work.
I will call back tomorrow and see if another agent can figure it out. |
I have just been told the new JW LA Live is a non participating property but it is not listed among the non participating locations. Anyone planning to stay using second free night.
I made a res and will call back after hotel opens to get a better response. |
Same response today....not with LNF rate. And for some reason the other one is not working, either. I've PM'd Marriott Concierge for help.
Mods - please merge with other E E O thread. Thanks. |
Any updates?

I think it was a general problem as I was having it with two hotel stays during that period. I called the Platinum line again before I heard back from Marriott Concierge and they were able to note the EEO in my record. (I have a feeling the others weren't just noting the EEO, but were trying to apply some type of code.) Marriott Concierge indicated it was his understanding EEO was allowed with LNF rates...but that only one use of the same EEO per period was allowed. I got a friend to help me out for the 2nd stay.
I guess the FT maxim of "call back" fits the bill again. |

EEO = Elite Exclusive Offer(s). |

Since no one has answered this question specifically, and I know I hate it when I don't know what some of the abbreviations or acronyms mean in general, but sometimes even when the meaning is given, it can be frustrating because the ACTUAL DEFINITION is not, which is the case here.

IMHO this is one of the best perks of being Au or Pt - surprising that some of the elites weren't familiar with it.
Then again, Marriott used to mail us nice paper coupon books several times a year which was harder to miss. But for some reason they couldn't seem to mail them out in any sort of a quality manner which is why they went to online coupons. |
Just to add to USirritated here, because I'm as bad at acronyms as the best of them here...
EEO's are as USi states, Elite Exclusive Offers which include some pretty uninspiring fare, such as 10% off rates, free ski hire or 1k or 2k extra points per stay. Some seem less than exclusive, such as stay 2 nights, get 3rd night free, which whilst a good offer is frequently available to all anyway, like as now with the global long weekend, so is hardly "exclusive". Other EEO's are more interesting such free meals, 30% or 35% off stays 7 days/week, free BonusBuck vouchers, etc etc. Most EEO's are specific to an individual hotel so this list is not nearly as attractive as it may sound, but if you're out that way... The main thing we all mean here when talking about EEO's though is the BOGOF - Buy One Get One Free - on hotel nights. Simply book a standard publicly available rate for a weekend and using the EEO voucher tucked away in the Marriott Platinum/Gold offers part of the website you'll get the second night free. It is genuine and easy to do, but has to be done by phone via the Gold/Plat line. Most members agree its one of the major benefits of the scheme, and sets Marriott Rewards apart from the competition. Indeed, you'll almost always find when EEO's are mentioned that they soley relate to the BOGOF EEO, since its way the most valuable and the certificate is published 3 or 4 times each year. Here on FT, EEO means the elite BOGOF scheme... |
For sure that is all true. I was forever forgetting what was in the coupon books, where I put them, and half the time they arrived late, so I maybe used a coupon once or twice per year, at most, and lots of great deals available to me went unredeemed. Now that all this has been pointed out to me, hopefully I will make better use of what is available to me, and so will everyone!
