i booked a room at W for 4 nights using cash+points.
after booking was made, i tried to apply suite night award to this booking but it didn't work. for the same period i found the rate at the St.regis is quite cheap (~139$ per night) should i change my booking from W to St.regis instead? Which one is better? Thanks in advance. (Sorry for my poor English) |
Why is this hotel not showing up in the SPG iphone app? I tried to search it a few different ways. Hmmm.

Now Staying in at this hotel after 2 nights at St.Regis.
Personally, the St.Regis is MUCH nicer than W. Three aspects that W is nicer than St.Regis are the friendliness of front desk staff, the closer location to the mall and the view from their marvelous suite. But the marvelous suite I got (by using suite night awards) does not like the one described on their website. For examples, on their website stated that there is a 46" TV in living room and 37" TV in bedroom of the suite, but ended up with two 32"TV in each room of the suite. No slippers provided, no amenities (touch up tool kit, shower hat, etc.) provided at all. Overall quite nice suite but poor lighting in bedroom. FYI, This hotel does not allow ANY HOTEL GUESTS to take photograph of the hotel lobby!!! PS. Sorry for my poor English. |
Not Impressed
I stayed for 1 night weekend before Christmas using my free night award. Website showed Fantastic and Marvelous suites available for sale afternoon before I checked in.
Front desk agent told me the hotel did not have Fanastic suite available for upgrade when I checked in at 9 PM, so I was assigned a standard room one cat up from the basic room. Apparently Marvelous suites are not considered standard suites for Plat upgrade, according to the hotel. Room was very small. SPG mobile website showed Fantastic suite available for sale so I called Plat concierge who also confirmed that Fantastic suite was available for sale. My wife was getting settled in and did not want to change rooms, so I didn't ask Plat concierge to check with the hotel for me for available upgrade. Overall, I was not impressed with the hotel. Yes, the location is great for the White House and the mall. But if you're not going there, then that location is of limited value. If you do not get an upgrade, the standard rooms are among the smallest of any Starwood hotel in DC. The rates for the W was actually similar to St. Regis for that weekend. I would stay somewhere else if I were paying for the room. |
How does the W compare with the Westin (not the one in Georgetown)? I've got an upcoming stay at the W on c&p and I can get the Westin for the same amount - should I switch? (Georgetown nor St Regis available on my dates for c&p). Thx.

So stick with W. |
Between the W, Westin Georgetown and St. Regis which has the best basic rooms, location and lounges?

I booked a C&P room for NYE, just in case I want it. They promptly sent me a "welcome" email from the WW rep, which has this bit [exerpted], emphasis mine:
If you aren’t convinced the vibe at W is the best fit, we can assist you with changing your booking to another SPG destination that might be a little more your speed. We would hate to see you leave us so W won’t charge you a cancellation fee – unless you have booked an online pre-paid rate (This is indicated both on our website & on your confirmation email that this non-refundable rate and charged at the time of booking). |

I read the bolded part and thought "Wow, that's really nice of them!" Then I read the italicized part and thought, "Wow, what a waste of words!" Sunday through Wednesday, W Washington, D.C. offers a more relaxing vibe / Thursday through Saturday…things around here are definitely more amped-up. And a word to the wise about weekends: nighttime music & post-party sounds can travel through the entire building. We want you to rest assured that we respond to any concerns about parties taking place within the guestrooms and suites of W very seriously. Any reports of disruptive conduct on the guestroom levels of W will be immediately addressed. ... I thought about it and cancelled my five-night all-points reservation. Staying at another properly instead, as that's not my "vibe." But I really appreciated the e-mail warning. |

Our review
We definitely got this warning as well from the front desk clerk upon check-in, and we got a lower floor (6th floor), and got no issues with the music, and I'm a light sleeper.
Here's my entire review. http://freetravelguys.com/travel-rev...on-d-c-review/ |
noise?
what is the noise from? in house club? out in the street? Is it better if you are higher or lower, farther from elevator...? I am all for relaxed vibe, as long as it doesn't interfere with sleep, which I am apparently required to do sometimes....I have a saturday/sunday stay in late July and am now wondering if I should go elsewhere...suggestions are appreciated....Quiet Room and BED QUALITY are the only two real concerns for me..thanks
