Confused about bed types, Wonderful and Spectacular both have 1 King and 1 Queen rooms.
Not 2 queens but one, who would book a Queen on purpose? |
Any recent review on this property?
considering this hotel or St R. Seems spg hotels do not do not really have good review. Should I look for Marriott? |

I visited the spa for the first time since the merger last August, and was pleased to learn that earning Bonvoy points at the spa is still possible for non-guests.

Renovations here are spectacular - was very happy with a 1 night stay this past saturday night.
Unfortunately, my WOW suite upgrade was downgraded to a Fantastic suite, and I couldn't check in until 6pm (room occupied/not cleaned). They gave me a breakfast voucher and a drink to compensate. |

Breakfast is made to order rather than buffet but good quality as a result. Oddly, the first night I was given a single voucher valid for $50 discount at breakfast, then the second night I was given two $18 vouchers - no idea why! SNA cleared into a Wow Suite which was great. |
Any comment on the noise levels or the frosted glass shower in rooms with 2 beds?

I keep track of every property I've stayed at for the last eight years, and this is the nicest city Marriott/SPG property I've ever stayed at. Granted, I confirmed an SNA upgrade to a Wow Suite at five days out, but I also checked out a standard King room as it was being cleaned (previous guests had checked out) and it looked excellent as well.
One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on. Great linen products, bath sheets (not towels), quality furniture in room. The Wow Suite had what looked like a 70+ inch TV mounted on the wall. I've stayed at countless properties where the breakfast amenity is $8-14 per person. If you're traveling alone, you can't utilize the benefit that would've been extended to your guest, so you're stuck with less than the cost of the meal. Here, the amenity is an insane $50. I did a double take at check in because I just couldn't believe it. "We just wanted it to be enough so that you can order whatever you want," the agent told me. At breakfast each morning, I ordered a giant, fresh smoothie and one of their entrees. Total was around $30 each morning - wiped to $0 with the voucher. Whoever is training the staff here deserves some recognition. Everyone, from the check in agents to the maintenance staff were exceptional. The restaurant staff was attentive but not overbearing. So glad I finally stayed here and I will definitely be back. |
Stayed at the W a few weekends back for the first time, though I've been to many other DC hotels. SNAs cleared into a Marvelous Suite -- was a little disappointed not to clear into the Wow Suite, but very glad the hotel is generous with what they make available on SNAs at all. Our suite was only on the 3rd floor and to judge from the floor map on the back of the door, it seemed like the hotel has quite a few suites, especially if the higher floors have a greater concentration of suites, so upgrades seem fairly likely.
Overall I liked it and would return, but it has its share of annoying quirks, like most Ws. The suite was not huge but was certainly big enough, about the size of two on-the-small-side standard hotel rooms side-by-side. Huge TV in the living room area that swivels out to be viewable from the couch or wherever else in the room. No real desk; there's a counter with some bar stools but wouldn't be all that comfortable to work from. Direct views of the Washington Monument, as advertised. Bathroom is a little oddly proportioned (the sinks were strangely tiny), but overall nice with a big bathtub and a separate shower. I was impressed with the breakfast offering, as many others have noted. Was explained to us as a $50 credit each morning, but we ended up ordering slightly more than that each day between the 2 of us and were both times given a $0 bill to sign (unless it's actually $50/person?). It is fully waiter service so it does make sense to leave a tip on what would be the normal price, though. Service was fairly fast both days. The transition away from Bliss toiletries has begun, with some unremarkable new brand in place for lotion and soap in our room, but the other Bliss items still available for now. I don't care much but I know some FTers do so for the record, the new brand products were made in China (while the Bliss products we had were made in Canada). A few annoyances:
The W is also typically one of the most expensive Bonvoy hotels in DC, and I'm usually in DC for short trips to visit family so don't usually feel like splurging, but it was cheaper than usual due to the holidays this time. If the price were right again, I would return. |
I just booked the W Washington but the website only offered a Fantastic or Spectacular room as options when applying the SNA. My impression was that others have been able to ask for a Marvelous and Wow Suite and I'm wondering if that used to be the case.
We'll be staying Nov 23-28 so I guessing that hotels aren't likely to full and we might have a shot. I'm Lifetime Titanium Elite looking to finally have one of that darn upgrades clear. |

But yeah, at least the Marvelous suite definitely used to be in the SNA pool... |

Just had a great 1-night stay here. Booked AAA basic room for $257, SNA cleared 5 days out into the Fantastic Suite, which is the only suite in the SNA pool.
I hadn't been here since the renovations, everything looks great and the room had a well-placed ceiling mirror to give it the feel of height despite being on the 4th floor with normal-height ceilings. Titanium breakfast was a $52 credit ($26/person) applied to the folio. It's just $52, not $52+tax/tip, but it's way better than being limited in what you can order. I got the salmon Benedict (no sauce), fruit, avocado, and juice. Quality was good. I chose late check out on the app and it was proactively confirmed at check in. POV was a lovely and lively scene, extensive renovations up there too. Cocktails are $22-24, but you're paying for the view and the drinks are pretty good. some pics: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...780af46803.jpg Fantastic Suite https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5aa99215c2.jpg Living room area https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...5ef1d6a925.jpg Proper closing door https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2b0b7ffea9.jpg Robe and slippers https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...e431238440.jpg Washington Monument view https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...d979f2d798.jpg Double vanity https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...078a1d126a.jpg Separate tub https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...c63c795b99.jpg View from the window after the weather cleared up https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...a4627fd320.jpg Restaurant is open, but I ordered my food to go |
According to this article, this hotel is leaving Marriott between August 1st or 31st.
khabah *** Exclusive: W Washington D.C. hotel to be sold, drop W brand Jul 26, 2021 - The 'W' will soon come down from the W Washington D.C. hotel, a little more than two years after the property's Dubai-based owner completed a $50 million renovation of the luxury branded hotel. The mark of one of Marriott International Inc.'s luxury hotel brands is slated to be stripped from the 326-room hotel at 515 15th St. NW as early as Aug. 1, but possibly not until the end of August, according two sources familiar with the situation. The hotel, which offers choice views of the White House from its POV rooftop bar, is going independent as part of a pending sale from its current owner, an affiliate of the Investment Corp. of Dubai, to a subsidiary of Newport Beach, Calif.-based Pimco, according to sources. The sale has not yet been recorded with the D.C. Recorder of Deeds. Pimco, a global investment management firm, reportedly acquired the Courtyard San Diego hotel earlier in 2020 for $64.5 million. "We are disappointed that the new owners of the W Washington D.C. have decided to run the hotel as an independent," a spokesperson for Marriott International Inc. (NASDAQ: MAR), said in an email. "We wish them the best in this next chapter for the storied property." Meade Atkeson, the hotel's general manager, did not respond to multiple calls seeking comment, and a representative for Pimco declined to comment. The W Washington D.C., which opened in 1917 as the Hotel Washington, has flown the W flag since 2007, when Starwood Hotels & Resorts said it would bring its flagship lifestyle hotel brand to the property. Marriott acquired Starwood in 2016. The recent renovations at the W restored its competitiveness with a set of newer, trendier competitors including the Line D.C. in Adams Morgan, the Moxy, and the Eaton Workshop. But at the same time, all of them have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, which significantly curtailed travel to the D.C. region and continues to suppress demand from business and international travelers. The sale is not expected to impact union employment at the hotel, said John Boardman, executive secretary for Unite Here International Union Local 25, which represents hotel workers in the region. But it is too soon to say how a switch will impact profitability at the property. "The W is a very popular brand, there's no doubt about that, and the W hotel has been enormously successful, and part of that success is attributable to the W brand," Boardman said. "We don't know what the new branding will bring, so it's hard to comment from a comparison point of view."
