Marriott Bonvoy Hotels in Warsaw, Poland

I'll be in Warsaw for one night in May. Rates at both hotels are the same - 189 Euros. From reading the few previous posts, it seems that the Sheraton is in a better location, but that the new Westin is nicer and not that far away. I'll have a few hours to see some sights and have a meal or two. Which hotel should I choose?

PaulMSN Mar 14, 2004 9:00 pm

I was at the Sheraton a month ago on an award stay, and I liked it fine. They upgraded me to a nice, big room. The front desk was friendly and helpful. It's a short walk to city center, a somewhat longer walk to the old town. There's a park a block away, and a little shop where you can buy food and drink just across the street. There are restaurants within walking distance, but I didn't try them. I haven't tried the Westin.

Have fun in Warszawa.

I would pick the Sheraton mainly due to its location specially if a leisure trip. While the Westin is really nice, it is a little far from restaurants and such, but not terribly far - less than a 10 zloty ride from old town and around 20 to the Sheraton neighbourhood. I tried restaurants at both places and the one at the Westin was a little better in my opinion. The Sheraton is an older, more established hotel.

I spent a couple of nights at the Westin last month. Nice hotel if a little too quiet. The lounge is nice as are the staff and the gym is the newest I've ever seen. There's a fun food market about 200 meters away that was fun to walk through for a touch of 'real life'. Other than that, I didn't have much time to sight see.

I've stayed at both, and yes the Sheraton is closer to most of the tourist attractions & Old Town, the newer Westin is in the old Jewish Ghetto (although, from the looks of the area, nothing remains but concrete block apt buildings and newer office towers--that being said, there is the Uprising memorial and the Ghetto memorial nearby). There are a couple of good restaurants nearby and Warsaw is very easy to get around in. I actually preferred the Westin, as it has a more W'ish design aspect to it, whereas the Sheraton is more typical general hotel.

Thanks for all of your opinions.

If you stay at the Sheraton, be sure to try the salmon! If not the best I've ever had in my life, a very close second.

Not that the SPG porperties are bad, but the Le Meridien Bristol is outstanding.

Located right next to the Presidential Palace, it is one of Europe's Grand hotels...rooms are beautiful and service is excellent: VERY attentive. If it was located anywhere else in Europe, it would be $500+/night.

Participates in the Leading Hotels Leaders Club program and AMEX Fine Hotels program for upgrades.

Looking for tips on where to stay in Warsaw

There is a Sheraton and a Westin. Which one should I go for. Am looking for a choice of restaurants and eventually a executive lounge. I doubt they upgrade Plat to suites.
Has anyone been there?

Welcome to FT, Avi!

I've not stayed at either starwood, but I can tell you that Warsaw is a great town. The old city especially (not really that old - just rebuilt, after the "unpleasantness"), is gorgeous.

mauld Jun 30, 2004 6:04 am

I've stayed at both Warsaw Starwoods and it depends upon where you want to be. The Sheraton is a bit older, more central (nearer shoppes, Old Town etc). It does have a very nice club with a good assortment of food for both breakfast & dinner. As a Platinum, I was given a large room-- but not a suite.
The Westin, on the other hand is near the old 'Jewish Quarter' (which has been rebuilt in the Soviet / block/ apartment style)...but there are a couple of good restaurants nearby and it is a quick cab ride or nice walk to the main part of town. I was there just after it opened and the while a Club was promised, it wasn't open yet. The hotel was very empty and yet no suite was offered. The Westin is very 'modern/W'-ish in style with a large open atrium lobby, while the Sheraton is more contempory.

MileTex Jun 30, 2004 11:19 am

I visit Warsaw about 4-5x a year and stay at both the Sheraton and Westin. I have never been upgraded to a Suite at the Sheraton. Usually have to whine to get upgraded to a smart room which is a bit larger. Lounge at the Sheraton is nice with nice breakfast and snack offerings. The Westin is more contemporary and they do upgrade to suites. The bedroom and bathroom in the suites are a bit on the smallish side but you do get a separate sitting room with bathroom. Lounge is nice but often I'm the only one there, unless I bring my friends. I sometimes will check out each day and switch hotels as it helps with my stay count :)

Hi All - this is my first official post in FT. I was introduced to the forum by my boyfriend LarryU and really appreciate reading the posts which have really helped us both in our travels.

I just came back from the Westin Warsaw, Sunday. What I found most impressive was that the service at the Westin was outstanding. If I had any request the staff was very responsive and helpful. I am a platinum and they offerred to upgrade me to a suite, but as I was only there a few days for business I did not bother. Regarding the services at the hotel, I visited the club lounge in the afternoon 6-8pm. They serve very beautiful (but small - not for the hungry) cold and hot appetizers and a large assortment of any and all kinds of beverages. I did not go to the lounge for breakfast because the meeting took care of breakfast and lunch - served buffet style in the 'Fusion' restaurant. The food was very good with a wide assortment of dishes. The rooms were neat and clean. I had a very basic room which I found to be adequate - the bathroom had a free standing shower and tub. Although I had just a regular room as a platinum, they provided me with the Molton Brown products which I am really fond of. For my amenity (no choice, no points) I received a lovely bottle of Italian red wine, 4 nice chocolate truffles, a green apple, a nectarine and a little bowl of cherries - all very nicely arranged on a square plate. As for the location, we were able to walk to the old city in just a few minutes. I really enjoyed the Westin Warsaw and would recommend it highly.

A firend has visited the Westin and she was very excited. Great Hotel with great service!

stimpy Jul 1, 2004 7:43 am

I'll never forget the Sheraton as I was there on 9/11! I did get a very large room and I recall the bar scene was a lot of fun on 9/10.

Shareholder Jul 1, 2004 8:08 am

Westin was not opened when I last visited Warsaw, so Sheraton was where I stayed and had a good experience. As noted, it is more centrally located around the corner from the art gallery, a couple of parks, and within walking distance of most major sites, the main RR stations, etc. It can also be reached easily just taking the city bus from the airport, get off one stop after the RR station and walk down a block past an historic church across the square from the hotel. From here, I could walk into the Old Town, as well as most other sites worth seeing.

ulev Jul 1, 2004 8:36 am

Stayed at the Westin twice within last two weeks, one stay cash & points, one paid (90€!! for weekend night). As a Plat I was upgraded both times to the same suite. Excellent service and extraordinary friendly staff throughout the hotel.

In the lounge you are very lonely most of the time.

Nobody has mentioned the excellent gym so far, which has the best equipment I have seen in any hotel for a long time. Stayed at the Sheraton before which is ok but if there is a choice I would always prefer the Westin.

Counsellor Jul 11, 2004 10:47 am

Have stayed at the Sheraton a number of times, and as Platinum have never gotten a suite, but have always gotten fine Smart rooms on lower floors with club access programmed in the key card. Since the rate I book has breakfast, I eat at it at the restaurant where Monika makes a mean omelette and the buffet has a great variety.

Bar has Guinness on tap.

Restaurant has the best salmon I've found in years.

The Westin is a modern luxury hotel, executive rooms are perfect, though rather small. Ask for a cornerroom on the high floors, you will have a great view. Nice modern lounge. Public areas are modern and classy. Service is perfect and friendly.

The Sheraton is more a classic hotel, nice tower lounge. Not a very special hotel. Did not get any upgrades to a special room. Location is very central. Service was not so friendly.

I would recommend the Westin.

ijgordon Apr 12, 2005 9:20 pm

Le Royal Meridien Bristol ;)

Beautiful hotel!

PaulMSN Apr 13, 2005 12:09 am

I liked the area around the Sheraton better, and I did get a room upgrade there as a Gold. Still not a large room. They were nice at both the Westin and Sheraton.

Warsaw: Sheraton or Westin?

Booked the Sheraton for a two night stay end of July. Should I switch to the Westin? Any one having stayed to both properties with insight?
Thanks

Before someone pipes in to tell you to use SEARCH, I'll add my 2cents. The Sheraton is closer to the main tourist attractions, and is very nice--but just your usual Sheraton (granted it does have a great lounge with good food/drinks). The Westin is very new and a bit further from the main part of town. Also the Westin is more "W" in appearance-- very trendy and modern and while the Sheraton is not 'old style', it is more in keeping with the general style of Starwoods of 5 or so years ago. I found the Westin to be more of my own personal style, it is also closer to the old Jewish quarter (which was totally destroyed during the war), When I was there 2 years ago, the Westin had just opened, and the staff was trying very hard to accomodate. Going back again, if I had only one night I would probably stay at the Westin, but being the 'stays' grabber that I am, if I had 2 nights in WAW, I'd again do both the Sheraton & the Westin.
PS- If you are also planing on going to Krakow, there is a new Sheraton that opened there last year, right along the river and next to the Wavel castle

OS-A330 Jun 12, 2005 6:11 am

Why not consider the Marriott? I have been there, and I honestly recommend it.

ewj Jun 12, 2005 7:53 am

I go to WAW 2-3 times a year. I usually stay at the Westin. It is one of the most secure hotels in the world. It host lots of international events, was there a few weeks ago when an EU Finance Leaders was taking place. While it is on one of the main drag (think the last Pope) and close to some fine eating/drinking places the Sheraton is a happening place on weekend and is in a more residential place. Sheraton is more Europeon/Cozy style hotel. It bar is a great time on a weekend night.

The Marriot is really for folks who want to be around USA/GB people the whole time. It is like you never left the USA, with it bars and clothing shops, etc.

If you plan to take public transportation (which I encourage) then Marriot or Westin is the place. If you plan taxi's teh Sheratona bd Westin will get you better service. BTW, the hotel taxis are more expensive then the local companies. You can ask the doorman to get a local taxi and they will.

Both the Sherton and Westin will have a car waiting for you at the airport for 50 zl. Well worth after a long flight.

You are not serious, are you? The Sheraton and Westin are so much better than the Marriott.

doctor Jun 13, 2005 10:56 am

Does the Marriott have a seperate shower?
Is the Westin or Marriott within walking distance of Old Town?

nimeta Jul 13, 2005 11:09 am

I am in the Westin Warsaw on 25 July for the night, so looking forward to trying it out. Any comments on Plat upgrades?

It is the most secure hotel in Eastern Europe. There is a great Italian place down the street. Great bar across the street. There is even a TGI Fridays 1 block away where a bunch of ex-pats hang out.

Plats get good upgrades without asking.

Best *Wood Property in Warsaw

I am going to Warsaw shortly. I was wondering what the experts here have to say here! So what is the best hotel in Warsaw?

Hi,

You can find information about Sheraton and Westin in this thread:

Nice trip to Poland.

Westin or Sheraton - Warsaw?

I'm going to be in Warsaw for a couple of day in mid jun (not a weekend) and was wondering if I should stay at the westin or the sheraton in Warsaw, Poland.
I'm not there on work and will be with my wife and one year old son. The purpose of the trip is to hang out and see the city... basic tourism.

I've never been to Poland before so I'm not sure of the exact location in relation to other activities. I did read that the westin is a better hotel and is in the business district. The sheraton description on the spg.com site said that it is centrally located.

I'll be taking the train in and out so some proximity to the station isn't a bad thing. Obviously being walking difference to the centre of the city is a big plus.

any thoughts ?

TravelingWookiee May 5, 2007 8:36 am

Check out the Le Meridien Hotel Bristol instead. It is a beautiful and historic hotel near the edge of the old town and walking distance to the top tourist spots. For a leisure trip, its location is ideal and the hotel itself is great. I highly recommend it.

I'll check it out.. Both the other two (westin and sheraton) are on the cash & points program so the price is unbeatable though. Any thoughts on them?

JOUY31 May 5, 2007 10:37 am

I tried the three last year. If the choice is between the Westin and the Sheraton, I would probably go for the Westin which is very modern and closer to the old town than the Sheraton, which I would not rate as being centrally located.

I would say neither nor, too. The LM is unbeatable location and stylewise. Both, Westin and Sheraton are typical US places, the LM is very much old world.

TravelingWookiee May 5, 2007 6:29 pm

I've managed to get very good prices at the LM Hotel Bristol in the past, so you may want to try that. It may turn into a better deal for you than Cash & Points. And since it's a Category 3 Hotel, it'll only 7000 points if you just use points.

One final bit for your consideration: Warsaw was almost completely destroyed in WWII and the area around the Hotel Bristol is one of the few to have successfully recaptured its classic look. On the other hand, the business district (other than very new buildings) is much more similar to communist era architecture (even after nearly two decades of improvements). If you're going for leisure, the atmosphere around the Hotel Bristol is infinitely nicer in my opinion.

ericj May 12, 2007 8:45 am

my two cents...

The Westin, definitely. Try to get a corner room, they're better than the Executive ones. The lounge is good and stocked with sushi and prosecco :)

I have a special kind of hatred for Le Bristol, which I think is an over-rated, depressing and poorly staffed pretentious dump. The lounge especially is worth the trip alone. It will cost you 35 euros to find yourself ensconsed in a blind box with one computer and orchestral Muzak, but according to their on-site promo it's the pinnacle of refinment and luxury.

To think that I have been there twice (not in the Lounge though, one must retain one's pride!). Still... how foolish was I?

olimaspecto May 12, 2007 8:53 am

The Le Meridien is more centrally located for most tourist activities, but I really did enjoy the Westin. As a Plat I got upgraded to a very good sized two-room suite (including free internet access), and of course lounge access. A great stay for around ~75 Euros/night.
