No, that is part of what makes it great. Gotta keep the knuckle draggers out! All they do is tear up their gorgeous grooming amongst other things.

I am here now on a 4 night paid stay in one of the corner room Astor suites. Unbelievable rates right now. The lobster roll at the bar (and terrace) is incredible, probably the best I have ever had. You must get this if you stay or drop in for a meal ($34) comes with skinny fries which I liked as well.

I was told they only had 21 rooms booked right now. They sent me a lovely plate of cookies from around the world with a description. The Astor suite has a full Kitchen with everything one would need. I have a lovely view of the mountain from my balcony that has 2 chairs and a small table. There is some wear visible in parts of the suite, but it is a beautiful suite with a fireplace in den as well as bedroom. I had tuna steak last night and it was obvious it was not fresh. It was ok but I expected better. I had much better last week in Nashville! I had stayed here before during ski season in a different type of suite (i forget which kind) and tried the spa which is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen at the time. It was pricey of course back then but now it is ridiculous. 50 min massage for $230 before taxes and tip. I called one of the local massage places to come to my room and received a great 120 min massage for $220!

Having said that this is a beautiful property and the location is awesome for ski season. DV is one of my favorite places to ski and all kidding aside I really like that they do not allow snow boarders. Sorry but you guys eviscerate the snow and lets face it this is one of only 2 or 3 places in the country you are not allowed, so its not like you don't have million other choices. Complain all you want but they won't change. They know this is a big part of their appeal and they are definitely not hurting for business. Point of fact, my family will keep giving them our business because of that and the atmosphere is here is quieter as well as the fact they limit ticket sales to keep the mountain from being crowded. If you can afford to stay here in ski season you are a very blessed person. Stein E. and Montage in that order would be the other good options. I would love to attach pics but I do not have the time to figure that out. Hope this helps a little. I would recommend staying here especially for Deer Valley skiers.

Looking for a long snow weekend and was originally booked in Aspen. With indoor dining now closed in their county, considering this property instead.

Would if be a waste to book the StR Deer Valley if we won't be looking to ski?

Resort is great if you want to spend the $ or points to enjoy it.

Not really walkable to much in town like the property in Aspen is, but Park City is a short drive away.

Would be a great way to spend a weekend wasting time on their stupid funicular up and down to your car.

We won't have our own car, instead we intended to use the hotel shuttle to get into town.

You don't really need a car with their shuttles that will take you pretty much anywhere in Park City. I have not ever when staying here and did not miss it.

That's the plan. The hotel also mentioned that the shuttle can pickup and drop off at the top level so no need for constant funicular rides

Seriously, good luck with that. Maybe it's less crowded in 2021 w CV19 and all but in Feb 2020 the shuttle service was a hot mess.

The shuttles have always picked up from the top level in my experience and as long as both funiculars are working it's never been a big deal to ride it if you do get dropped off on the bottom level or have an Uber or something pick you up at the bottom. The bad news is they do sometimes break and when one or both are broken, getting in and out of the hotel can turn in to a bit of a mess. I would describe one being broken as a slight inconvenience that you can mostly plan around by avoiding peak times, but even if you get stuck in a line waiting for one, it's typically not that bad. When both are broken (which has only happened one morning in all my visits) it is a disaster. They can shuttle people to and from the top constantly, but you can imagine what it is like keeping an organized line and list of people in this type of environment. There were lots of angry guests and the waits seemed to bring out the worst in everyone. Kids were crying, people were cutting and lying about how long they'd been waiting, and just a lot of unnecessary rudeness all around. It was not a situation I want to find myself in again and thankfully it only happened that one time.

If you're not skiing, midday shuttles should be readily available, I would just plan to leave a little later after the morning ski rush and try to avoid returning around the time the mountain closes. I've been to the hotel pretty much every year since it's been open except last year and always look forward to returning. Upgrades aren't what they once were, but I still love the location and hard product.

The shuttle service was also a hot mess this past summer. In addition, there is no social distancing on the funicular, which gets particularly busy in the afternoon/evening because they allow non-guests in the restaurant and bar.,

It's a great hotel and the staff are wonderful. But the isolated location and funicular issues mean that we have avoided it during the ski season and stayed at the Hotel Park City instead.

The shuttles, and I have been there twice (both in and out of ski season) always drop by the front lobby. So unless you were to actually ask to be dropped at the funicular, you wont.

are there good walking/hiking trails, etc.? Things to do outside in the Summer that aren't skiing?

Absolutely. They even have some of the chairlifts running. Beautiful in summer, I was there last July.

How does this property compare to Aspen? Obviously not walking distance from Park City. I don't think we've ever been limited to $20 Plat breakfasts in Aspen thought that's kind of a minor detail.

Airfare to SLC is always cheaper than ASE though of course the resort is farther from SLC. Deer Valley is part of the Ikon pass system but unlike Aspen does not participate in Mountain Collective.
